I've noticed that a lot of the poets on this site that I admire write a poem or two each day. I myself write, at the very most, one poem every two days, but usually not even that often. I do have a lot of time, but it's just that on somedays the writing just flows out of me onto the paper, but on other days I sit there with the pen half an hour before I even know what I want to write about. Some people say you should write even when you're not inspired even if you don't feel like it. Does that mean that no matter how i feel, I should train myself to write atleast one poem each day to help me learn? And even if I'm totally not inspired? Because if I'm not inspired, it doesn't feel like the poem is coming from my heart and then it won't turn out to be a good poem, am I correct? Can someone tell me what they think, because this question has really been bothering me the last few days. |

but if you do that, (only write when inspired) you become a slave to your emotions. |

I have moments of both myself. Sometimes I will sit there for an entire day and write - othertimes I don't have time and I find its been weeks even months since I've actually sat down to write...I guess it depends on my life circumstances, at times I feel the need to write more when at others life in general just carries me along and I lose track of time... |

the best times to write are when they come straight from your heart. at those times, poems turn out the best. you shouldnt force yourself to write meaningless poems to get more a day, you should write to relieve stress or for enjoyment, not competition or anything like that. i used to write two or three a day, sometimes four, but now i have a bit of writers block, so im lucky if i get a poem a week now. i think when i first started writing, i could write a lot more because i had so much to get out. |

I agree, sometimes I go for days without writing, and sometimes i write three poems in a day. My poems are really bad when Im not in a "Artsy" mood. It doesnt matter how much other poeple wirte, or how good their poetry is, but what you can do, and if you cant write every day, thas fine. |

I go through spurts, I will sometimes write up to 20 or 25 poems a day and then not pick up a pen for a week or two, or I'll just write 1 every couple days for a while. |

Okay thanks you guys! Thanks a lot! Now that I know your views on this i know what i'll do. When I'm inspired i'll definitly write, but sometimes I'll write not to get rusty and also to teach myself to be able to write even when I'm not inspired. It really helped to know what you guys thought. And yes, I am serious about writing. |

BlueDragon, Why do you think I feel superior by voicing my thoughts on the matter? I didn't say anyone HAD to do what I suggested. I said that was just how I felt personally. |

I used to have a rule where I wrote a poem a day, but it turned out that they were of lesser quality because I was getting burned out on writing. |

I write everyday. I don't finish a poem everyday, I just write. I started three yesterday and none of them are finished. I have one saved that I've had for a little over 2 months now. I write all the time, I have a notebook in my car and paper in my purse. I can get inspired at a red light or in a grocery store, you never know. I only write the way I do because I WANT to. It's not my job and it's not a chore! Write because you want to, because you love it. If you make it something you HAVE to do you won't enjoy it anymore. |

A poem every few days? I write a few poems in a week maybe, but then I go without writing for months on end. For me, the poem begins and finishes by itself. I am merely a way for it to be, shall we say, recorded. Best advice I can give you, write at your own pace, screw the others. They can do what they want. Respect them, but don't be them. It's not like you're them, now, is it? |

I write, when something happens in my life, or i feel something. And i just want to write about it. I write about it, in a diary, and then i make it into a poem! I know a girl on here, who wrote about 7-9 in a day. But i dont care how many i write, i write when i am on my own, or something new happens. |

Sometimes I write alot in a day, sometimes a barely write at all in a week. I write when I'm inspired. So, write when you're inspired. Most poems that don't come from inspiration and the heart aren't that great. |
