    Untouchable:

    half agreed...

Yes it is okay to make a few spelling mistakes every once in a while...

    But

For those who constantly type like a dumb ass

    example:

hEy, dUd!!!! Red mI pEoMzZ! I WiL ReEd UrZ 2!

It becomes a constant annoyance and embarrassment to the few of us that are serious about composing poetry.

I for one do not like to waste time trying to understand "internet slang"...

It took me longer to write that example above than it has to type this whole post.

So when someone corrects your spelling, take it gracefully and never forget how to spell that word again.

Some may only correct you to make you feel like an idiot, but others do it to guide and remind all. If spelling "one or two" words wrong isn't such a big deal to you, it shouldn't be such a big deal to get corrected "one or two" times.

I prefer to have my spelling corrected - its a matter of learning. If you can't take the constructive criticism then you're clearly in the wrong place

    Michael -

    "career in poetry" lol

    Nobody -

"I for one do not like to waste time trying to understand "internet slang""

And you talk on the Internet. Odd, would you also go to Mexico without learning Spanish?

    Michael Todd.

'art is meant to flow, like paintings, from one stanza (or line) to the next', you argue. Please don't put a wager on this one, Michael.

Firstly, art has no boundries and is not meant to do anything - least of all 'flow'. Secondly, a stanza isn't a single line, it's what many call the verse in a poem: a block of lines. Thirdly, there are no stanzas in paintings.

Nicely put Mel. I totally agree. And if you read quite a lot of famous authors, not all of their poems flow onto each other. So i would sort things out first

    Michael.

You want proof that poetry never strays from it's original theme! Ok. Check out the hoard of Modernist poets; some of which would cut out lines from a book/crossword, throw them up in the air, write down a random title and arrange the 'fallen' words into 'stanzas' (a verse of poetry) and publish the result. From the way you've arranged your argument, Michael, there's a good chance that you might be doing the same with your thought process.

    Michael.

There you go, JPM's beaten me to my reply (he's a shrewd guy that one). However, you should check out the genres and poems that are not taught in high school. Move away from 'Realism' and its jaded notions of structure, michael. Realism doesn't exist - it never did! It's a chaotic and fragmented world out there, and the type of poetry you keep banging on about is written to placate the masses; it does not reflect anything in our lives. It just gives us a feeling of ooooooooh, that's pretty: hence the simplicity of plot, mood, emotion etc. These are all poetic techniques (stylistics) to keep the reader on track. Oh, and they sell well.

This is a good site. I've only been coming here a while and I've found some excellent perspectives on a whole range of subjects in the disussion sections (there's also a heap of bollocks in some of them). Don't stifle your view on anything - that's the most important tool you have in life. Good luck.

I just read your post saying "you are just too lazy to be poetically correct.". But spelling correctly isn't being poetically correct is it? It's being gramatically correct isn't it? You do not just spell in poetry. You spell in stories, newspaper articles and most things in life. So I do believe that you are wrong there.

p.s. sorry if i spelt anything wrong as i do not tend to go back and spell check my work unless I am posting it. Also, if i am completely and utterly wrong in my theory then ignore me.

Who can correct you if you don't post? Who can correct anything if you hide it away for fear of substandard?
