Im pretty sure there is already a system....I remember there being emails sent to members who have been giving 1 votes continuously, they were warned with acccount suspension if it continued...is it still active?

yes, there already is a system, and I assume it is still active.

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
    sorry. still, lmao.

What the F makes you think you could possibly "detect false votes"?
Votes are based on opinion, so how could you ever create a 'detector' to point out votes which are not thoroughly thought out?

If there is something I'm missing, please someone explain.

Note: some people wish not to leave comments, either because they are afraid of you comming back at them, or they just don't see any improvement ability in you :)

    That still doesn't make sense.

A person could just be a harsh voter. Perhaps there are only a few particular poems they like out of a big number. So, how can you tell their opinion by the number of times they vote ones?

Not to mention their critique strategy. Perhaps someone doesn't think it's worth telling a person their poem is excellent because they commented or because they think they would already know, and they think it's only worth voting 1's to send a message to improve.

You cannot judge a person's opinion by a number of times they vote, and a person should not be punished on the site because of their style of voting.

Well a person cannot vote numerous one's on a poem anyway considering the site does not allow you to vote more than once on a poem.

And what if a person just doesn't happen to particularly like that poet's work? True they SHOULDN'T vote on their poems if they don't like any of them, but what right says they can't?

So it still doesn't make sense.

same as they discussed earlier, but I still don't see how it could be accurate.

You know, not every one of those top poems are brought down by "down voters".
I do agree though that the voting system should be forgotten, but this is why I made that comment.

Some people do vote negatively on 'good' poetry because they don't understand it. Which, bothers me more than someone who votes a one merely for the hell of it.

Honestly I think that perhaps the voting system could stay, but only the moderators could vote.

hmmm, perhaps I will write a topic on that later...

yeah, that was the one thing I was trying to figure out (the amount of poetry the moderators would read).

    I don't know, I'll think of something.
    Or not

    intriguing...

We could have a box that you check instead of a voting system that says "check this if it's worth reading" then once it reaches a certain number it gets sent to a moderator...

HA. that was actually really, really stupid.
But something along the lines of that I suppose.

Vagabond: we're not the doer's, we're the complainers
    :)

Yea Nada I actually really enjoy the bashing idea.
(but don't call it bashing, queen Ann won't like that. We'll just say constructive critisizm...)

  • pinkalias

Well before we put too much work into it let's see what Ann thinks
(in case they don't have any intentions of changing the voting system)

you know, I really have no say in what is done or not done on this site. I could hate the idea and if Janis likes he, it would get done, but on the other hand, I could love it, but if it is undoable or Janis just doesn't like it, then it won't get done.

I, personally, think there should be no voting system. Just comments. But I know that Janis doesn't want to go that way. And, as much as people complain about the voting, I think most people like the award too much to really want to give up voting.
