Am I too young to write?

Do you think I'm too young to write. I'm only 12 but a lot of my poems are around more mature things like love and death and hardships. But the thing I don't get is that I'm 12 but it doesn't mean I haven't faced life. Yet still many say I'm too young to write and I don't know what I'm talking about...what do you think?

Personally, I don't think you are EVER too young to write. My 13 year old son wrote a poem about love for school and a girl took a copy home and her mom cried when she read it...No one can stop you from writing except you, so if you want to write...go for it. Don't worry about what people say. I write for my own reasons not to please others... well, maybe my husband sometimes :o) but that's different.
    God bless!

No, you're never too young to write and express your feelings. Writing poetry is a great way to show the world how you feel and to tell about you, and while writing you will come to understand yourself better. If you read your own poems they will reflect you and in that way it will be almost like looking at yourself. Just keep writing and as you mature and grow older your talent will increase and you will learn a lot of new things. Keep writing,

Christina, you are definitely not too young! I'm only 12, too! Anyways, they're just jealous because you're an amazing writer and they just want to be able to write like you. The only person who can tell you you're too young is yourself, and you shouldn't ever tell yourself that, because you are not too young! Never stop writing! I wuv you!

I agree with the others, you are never to young to write. Writing is a way of expressing things you can't just blurt out and talk to everyone about. It's the only way I can clear my mind at times.

NO! You are NEVER too young to write. My niece is 6 and writes poems. She loves it. If you have something to say, say it. Write it!

I was only eight when I wrote my first poem. As odd as it sounds, it was titled "noodles..." Amazing...Isn't it? From "Noodles" to Religion to Deathly poetry...I am 20 now, and my has my style changed!

Anyway, your not young, just youthful. Enjoy life while your hair's not grey :)

No way. You're never too young to write. I'm 12 years old. While some of my poems are silly, most are dark stuff. So, the only person who can stop you from wrting is you, so if you don't want to stop writing noone can make you stop. Don't stop writing just because you're young!

Everyone's got to start somewhere, and maybe because you are younger you won't be reaching your full potential, but as you grow older and become more experienced, you will definately get better. I personally don't think anyone is too young to write (as long as they are physically capeable of holding a pen of course!)

No one is too young to write. I was nine when I wrote 'die with the dusk, dragon'. Okay, it was just titled 'dragon' but, hey, i was nine. In my opinion, people learn best when they start early. That way you're still young and you face things with a more open mind than an adult. You then have more time in your life to learn and improve your work.
P.S. When I say 'you' I don't mean 'you' personlly, i mean universal 'you'.

    Oh, come on.

Did you honestly expect to get anyone here replying with: "Yes, you're too goddamn young. Quit before someone notices how badly you're publicly humiliating yourself"?

    I didn't think so.

Writing isn't necessarily something that requires age, but it does help. My poetry now is a hell of a lot better than when I was 12 or 13. That said, my poetry when I'm 20 will be similarly better than the stuff I have posted now, and so on until either my arms are amputated or I'm six feet under.

All the same, some older people are hopeless at poetry, just as some younger people are. Here, it doesn't matter if you're 13 or 30: if you simply suck, you suck.

But above all, I think you're an idiot to pose the attention-seeking question in the first place.

If you want to write poetry, don't mope around protesting that you're secretly spilling with talent despite your tender years. Jesus, just do it already. Genuis or no, no one around here is holding their breath.

I'm pretty sure that's what you needed to hear.

No you're never too young to write.
Everyone has a different point of veriw on things, and its interesting (for me ) to see how younger people write.
As for the exsperince behind it, I write things about loss of family. But I haven't exactly lost a valuble(sp?) member yet.
:) Keep up the good work!

It seems to be most of the people who are younger on this forum (though 15 is still particulary young of me), are girls...It'd be intresting to see a poll actually of male writers, and female writers.

As i am rather certain there are far more female writers on this website.

Hey, I am twelve too, but that never means you are too young. It's if you have soul to write, the heart to share it, and the mind to know what you are talking about.

  • crystal

you are never to young to write!!!!! whoever told you that ought to be smacked raw and beaten silly!
just because you are twelve doesn't mean that you haven't experienced enough in your life to write about. there are a lot of things that can happen in just one year. this world can be very dangerous in certain places, so surviving for 12 years, is a story in itself to write about. so go on and write what you feel, write what you know and be the best at it, so you can show them up! that would say enough without even having to talk to them! so more power to ya! No one is ever too young to write! I started writing poetry and stories fairly young and I guess that my first experience of this was in English classes at school.

Writing doesn't always improve with age either, there are many adults whose poetic pieces are only half as good as someone much younger.

If you feel that you want to write then go for it. There is no age limit on expressing yourself!

    Nici

PS I do know that there is someone on this website, who's profile says that they are 10, called Pinkie, maybe you should try and contact her?

No one is too young to write or be told your too young to write . You can be young and have alot of feeling on your poem or be old and have no feeling in your poem . Writting a poem is all about feelig and expressing things . Poem writting i would think for anyone is a good way to express the way they are feeling in anyway .. or if they jsut have something to say ..... i started writting when i was young and haven't stopped since ..... If you feel you want to write go ahead and write .

no matter young or old, Poetry is much more than reading and writing. Poetry comes from the will to help others, the effort of sharing and being socially concerned. Poetry displays compassion for the world and its beings. Like the branches of a tree in the jungle, poetry reaches in many directions. Your poetry masterpiece, leaf by leaf, floats upon the wind and paints the colours of the universe. Each leaf is a tear of joy singing the universal song of poetry.

and i agree with bob, "always write with the same passion that you should live life, to the fullest......"
