How do you get poems copyright?

Any wrting/drawing etc. is copyright to you the second you put it down on paper/type it up on the computer until 50 years after your death. But, sadly, that doesn't always keep people from stealing your stuff. You can register your poems at the U.S. Copyright Office (or sumthin like that) for $30, which means you have hard proof that the poem is copyright to YOU.
