Tough Love

My question today is... Does tough love really work?? Like "Bashers"(sorry I dont like labels, but I dont know what else to call you) You guys have proven your point and I understand, and thank you for helping those you could help... But what do you here:

You're friend, someone you are close to, is so fragile, that anything could make them upset. They cut already, they are suicidal.. all the shit tied to that. And they sya they want to kill themselves tonight. You cant tell me you would HONESTLY just "Walk away" or say "suck it up you're stupid".. What do you do??

I would tell them they were a fucking retard as I did with my boyfriend. He had a knife to his stomach once and another time a gun to his head....I told him he was stupid and wasting my time. My boyfriend...now fiance. Yes, that is exactly what I did. If he was going to kill hisself he would have DID IT no matter what I had to say about it. Someone who TRULY wants to kill themselves is going to do it...plain and simple.

Sorry to hear about your boyfriend. So you would know that there is nothing one can say to make another person not kill themselves. You can probably delay it....but if they are going to do it that's that.

yeah.. id have to agree with many people in here.. if someone REALLY was going to kill themselves, theyd do it rather you stood right beside them or told them they were idiots for what they were going to do.

if i had a friend who was extremely sensitive and they told me they wanted to kill themselves id tell them face to face that "i love you so much, but what your doing is so stupid and wrong, cuZ theres so many poeople that care about you." Then id offer to go to a counsellor or something with them.

If someone were to tell me that they were going to kill themself over me, I would tell them they seriously need to get a life and if they are going to kill themself, then to please do so in the other room and not to get any blood on my carpet. Sound harsh? Well, first of all as many people on this thread have already said, if someone wants to kill themself then they are going to do it no matter what I say. And it would be just selfish to come and try to make me feel guilty because they are too weak to deal with their problems in a reasonable way. Second of all, they would only be telling me they were doing it to get their way or something from me and I, myself don't take too kindly to threats. Thirdly, I believe that if a person is ignorant enough to think that killing themself is going to help them any some way, then they are seriously in for a rude awakening after they kill themself and then meet their Creator.

And lastly, I really don't want blood on my carpet. Those stains are a ***** to get out.
