Meatball hoagies are a traditional American school lunch, like a meatball sub. and while the entire story is only well-know by the original meatball hoagies (Sierra and Georgi), I do believe it had something to do with the incrediblity of serving meatball hoagies to young children at school. and, as the founders were incredible themselves, they took upon the name "meatball hoagie."
