Does it scare you to tell other people read you poems? i mean to know what they think? it scares me that some one isnt going to like my stuff.. it took me along time before i would let any one read any of my poems.. and even still it scares me putting my poems on here.. i think the only reason i do is b/c i dont know many ppl on here and if they dont like it it wont be like one of my good friends telling me.. i think i'm just scared of rejection.. any one else like that?

No, because at the end of the day in my mind they are worthless pieces of shit.

So, do i really care if people tread in it?

I was afraid to share my work when I first started writing. With my family especially. I wrote for a while before anyone ever knew. I realize now that it doesn't matter what others think. I write for me and no one has to approve of my poetry. And on top of that you can't please everyone. Some will love what you write and others will hate it. I got my feelings hurt a couple of times but now I don't let that affect me. I write because I love to and that's it.

It doesn't really scare me. But right now hardly anybody knows I write. My family and some of my friends don't know. I don't feel comfortable showing them right now. I like posting up my poems, because I like it when people enjoy my poem and being able to relate to somebody else. I'm not really worried about what other people think, because everybody has a different opinion. I write because that's what I love to do and sometimes it helps me put out feelings.

My family have NO IDEA I write, and only a few friends do. But I'm always scared what they're going to think seeing as they're mostly depression poems and I don't show the trait.

I don't care what other people think. At least not as much as others do. I welcome critique, but I don't care if you say something negative (as long as it's constructive and not out of rudeness, like untouchable does...)

Confidence Is An Important Quality You Must Learn To Aquire As A Writer Because No Matter How Could Of a Poet You Are There Is Always Going To Be a Critic That Dosen't Like Your Work Or The Way You Write, You Have To Realize Someones Opinion Is Just What It Is An "Opinion" Dosen't Mean Its True (Use My Advice, It Works!) xoxo-Nikki-xoxo

Yeah I thought that aswell ... it makes it a little confusing to read and must take a while to actually write the post!

hahaha!! back to the first question..... i'm not scared of people reading my stuff cus its really down to wat i think at the end of the day and if the person doesnt like wat i write then they shouldnt read it!!!! but i write wat i feel not wat people wat to hear!!!

Not at all. The first poem I wrote 'Goodbye' isn't a very happy poem and straight away I told my sister, and then I told my friends, it doesn't matter to me if they like it or if they don't.

I like getting honest feedback, it helps me to improve my writing, the majority of my friends know about this site so they read most of my stuff.

It doesn't bother me that they know how I feel, once I've written it down I feel so much better, I don't care who reads it.

My mum found some of my poems not to long ago, I thought I was in for a long talk, but it turns out she likes them and wants me to continue writing!

Yeah - I totally agree with Taylor, Untouchable, why are you here?
It seems you think you are top sh*t and so much further and beyond all of us.

EJ has every right to be scared of showing people the poems.

thanks everyone.. you have really helped alot.. except for the jerk and those who have read the posts know who i am talkin about... lol.. i think the reason it bothers me so much is b/c what my poems are about.. and i mean and most of them are truely what i feel inside.. and the ones that arent are about cuttin.. and none of my family know i cut and only a few friends do.. so that really bothers me that i am showing it to no telling how many people but i wont show the ones i trust the most.. idk i guess its just me or something

I agree with you (soul) and (EJ)

People really need to start giving their honest opinions!
And yeah fair enough, if you scared of showing them cos of whats written in them than that is perfectly FINE!!!

I truthfully don't care if someone doesn't like my writing, I don't like alot of my own writing, I think it is crap. Plus, if someone doesn't like the way I write, then they aren't attacking me personally, they are just commenting on a piece of paper with words on it. If I like the piece and someone else doesn't, then good for them. I because I do, not to please others; however, don't confuse what I am saying and not heed advice to help you write better. Always listen to advice.

No it dosen't. Bear in mind that you are a writer and poet because you have some inner thoughts and emotions you want to express and show. To put it to paper, means that you wish to communicate these thoughts and emotions with others.

It should not affect you how others react to your words, as differnt things will always have different meanings for different people. Each will have their own views and outlook. But at least you have been brave to commit your views and thoughts to paper for others to share. Regardless of the outcome, you should not be scared.

at first i kinda was, but then i thought they are my personal feelings and if people dont like it then too bad.
everyone has different taste, so some people will like your poems, while others wont.

I think it's alot easier to put them on this website just because I don't know the people here. Only 3 or 4 of my real life friends know I write poems.

And don't feel bad if you get a bad comment, there might be some hints in the comment that allows you to become a better writer in the future:)
