I have some ideas how to get out of writers block

well it is ok for you to be in a block for a moment and sometimes it helps just to stop writing and to go wash your clothes or do the dishes. Soon your mind will be relaxed and help you get back on track. A tip for finding an inspiration: look around you! dont focus on yourself all the time, you can find an inspiration by a friend or by other peoples problems. But hey sometimes it helps just to write about how you feel!

    hi Melody,

thanks for the tip, I'm sure it'll help me as soon as I'm free to write more poems ;)

Thanks for sharing. That makes sense. Doing mundane things gives inspiration. If you get a chance read a book by Piers Anthony and the fantasy he made out of Florida where he lives. He writes sci fi so he is ok in my book, lol. :)

When I get writers block I tend to find the following give it a good hammering:

    1) Watch the news: Let's face it, there is always something on there that angries up the blood.

    2) Old photos: Reminiscing is great. Good times and bad can always be found in old photos, which is a great inspiration for poetry.

    3) An unusual walk: getting out and about somewhere you wouldn't normally go. Be it a churchyard or a shopping mall in a nearby town, a disused factory site or a new housing development zone, I can always find something that gets the synapses firing into poetic life!

I did method 3 today. I walked past the car park I used to hang out on when I first passed my test: donuttin' and handbrake-turnin' my way through the late-teens... It's now an "under construction" theme bar, and they destroyed a rather historic part of the town to build it, alongside the old car park.

As a result I'm working on a poem tentatively titled "Fed By Sunlight" about urban growth.

I use nature as inspiration a lot. Lately I've just been writing no matter how bad it might be, then most of the time I either forget about it or delete it. Experience!!
