From the mouth of my guy friend "The phone is the Devil". They don't like calling because it makes them nervous. Either you call them or go see him in person. Simple.

did you ask him why he thinks its stupid?

tell to him that you like to talk to him and that calling shows that you're thinking of the person.

try to be calm and dont mention it too much, guys dont like nagging.
