hmmmm, I'm thinking people are going to want to be a member of more than one. At least after they get going and there are more.

I'd think you can only Manage and/or assist in one, but should be able to be a memeber of 2 or 3.

is there any way this can happen, Janis?

There are no active clubs yet, but there are 3 awaiting assistants, so I don't know if this will show when they are active or not, but I think it would also be nice to be able to see who the manager and assistants are for each club.

I also started my club for critique.

"You cannot accept application of this assistant!"

    why the hell not?

Are you a member of another club, Mike?

Ann or Janis, I have a question about the poetry clubs. Will you still be able to have discussions with other people on the site that aren't a member of the same club as you? Also, will you still be able to vote and comment on other members poetry like we can now? I have a lot of saved favorites that I am guessing won't be in the same club as myself. I agree with you Ann about thinking people might want to be part of more than just one. I hope this poetry club will work out it sounds like a brilliant idea.

The people wanting to join a club with me don't have the awards necessary to be assistants so we can't form a club. Is it really necessary for the assistants to be required to have awards?

I really don't know much about them myself, yet.

From what I see, anyone can click on a club name and see who is a part of that club and their poems. From Janis' original message it sounds like they also have their own private discussion board. I'm assuming you can't see that unless you are a member of that club.

You can still talk to those members on the main discussion board, and I'm quite sure you can still comment and vote on their poems whether you access them through the club list or any other means (like your faves list)

And I don't think it's really segregation any more than having different categories on the main discussion board. Maybe this will even cut down on the general "chatting" that is done there.

I think the seperate clubs were a good idea. People who are serious about writing and improving can be part of one place and people who just want to chit chat can be in another. And we can ALL still meet in the regular forums.

  • Natalie84

Yes, I can see your point. I saw someone make a comment in poetry discussion that said, " ones started in the section so far but thats poetry inc and we can't join unless were part of poetry inc or we impress the hell out of them with out comments.” That made me laugh but bothered me a bit too. I took that comment as she didn't feel as though she could get into the club, like she wasn't good enough. That's not fair especially with this site seeing as we have people so young among us. I liked the club idea because I talk to the same people a lot on this site and find we flood the forums with useless discussions. So I thought it was good that we could do it some where else where others wouldn't be affected. It has both a negative and positive side.

I really like the idea...but I definitly think we should be able to be in more than one, 3 is a good number...lol...

Heh. There's more clubs then Poetry Inc. It's just that they're still under development. Alot of them still need assistants (click the assistant button to check).

As for some people not being able to become an assistant even hough they qualify, it's probably just a script error. Janis could probably fix it up. But.... This club thing isn't going too badly for a first day.

As for your views Bob, i agree with them somewhat. However, no matter what we do, we run a risk of being discriminated anyways. However, as a mod, i will try to prevent that. We havn't heard any news of someone being excluded yet but, if a person were to be declined membership in a club, the owner better have damn good reason why.

Aken Sol, do you think I'm lame for only wanting Poetry inc members in our club???

If so, tell me, for many people are applying this club, and I do not want to tell them no, just to find out that half the site will hate me for it

but I do not want that club to end up like these forums have...¨

  • EoB

    Thank you...

If I choose not to accept someone, it isn't because they suck at poetry or anything...

And besides, Poetry inc. contains a few rather strong personalities, so I do have to choose who should be let in on the basis of what I know about the other members..

I do also ask the rest of the group what they think..

"Aken Sol, do you think I'm lame for only wanting Poetry inc members in our club???" - EoB

EoB, wth are you talking about? No i don't think you're lame. Where the heck did that come from?

From my previous statement, i was worried that some club makers would abuse thier powers. You, i'm not concerned with. You have good taste and could tell a good critique from a bad one.

However, there are already people who "qualify" but really are (ugh, how do i phrase this nicely?), stupid. Making prereqiusites like " ChYeAh! U GOtz 2 Be BeAuTiFulS."

    *Shudder*

Anyways, that hasn't taken place yet so i guess i'm being pessimistic about this :-/ I'm willing to try this thing out.

Hey another quick question...to be an assistant you fill out an application form thing...well where does that go, like if someone sent me as manager an application form, do i ever see it?? like does it get sent to my email or what? okay thankies!

    ooh and i have a suggestion...sheesh how incredible i'm complaining already...lol

okay, in the poetry clubs/poems part it just lists all the poems alphabetically by author...meaning that all of one persons poems will show up, then all of anothers, so that it takes you to like page 20 before you even see the poem name by another author...i'm suggesting that they be listed either by date they were written, so that the poems are mixed up between authors...either that or make it how we have all the categories here(i.e. love and romance, depression, etc.) so that it shows top 5 rated and then you can click to see all poems(which that is actually a sub-category but whatever) and then sort them by rating, date, or alphabetical (and then once in rating you can sort by at least 1 vote, 10 votes, 25 votes, or 100 votes, ya see where I am now??) okay well that's my fabulous suggestion...

ChYeAh! U GOtz 2 Be BeAuTiFulS."

    hahaha

    I see your point...

You said that the president needed one hell of a reason if he/she was to decline someone....

  • Aken Sol

    Ah, now i see yours.

Well, if they break your prerequisite rules, and if your prerequisite rules are reasonable, then that's good enough reason for me. Like being able to critique properly is an important factor in your club is it not? If a person can't do that, i see no fault in you banning them from your club.

Good luck w/ your club EoB :)

yes, it seems like after you become a member of a club, you cannot see the information for any other club.

UNLESS... you have this link: http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/poetry_clubs.html

then you can see the lists and who's in them :)

    just noticed something else.

When a club is waiting for assistants, the description and requirements are separated and have their respective heading, but once it is ready for other members, the description and requirements are combined into one big paragraph with no meaningful line breaks.

    Can you fix that Janis?

  • Kailynn Makenna

hey i really like thsi idea, i just made a club, and i need one assistant, and i would really apprecaite any one to become an assistant! so if you wouldnt mind and woudl like to be part of the club i started, you could go to the poetry club section and click become an assistant or something along those lines, and find the one wiht my name on it...

    thanks

Hey I think I found a bug...in the club discussion in my club the old posts get lost on the 2nd page...
ex. you know at the bottom of a forum there is the little

    1, 2, 3, 4, 5 > >>

Well when you click the 2 (in my club anyway) there are no posts there even though there should be...

okay just thought I'd let someone know!!

  • Sierra Rae

ooh and i have an idea...though someone above me i think brought it up first...i think every club should have a "rules" page where the manager/assistants can publish the rules of that club for all members to see, instead of putting them just as a thread in the forum that will eventually be moved to near the end of the list...

okay just thought i'd share that!!
