I don't know why people are so worried about getting awards. They probably think it makes them look better than everyone else, when it doesn't.

Well said Bob, I fully agree.

no matter what forum you go to, usually there will be at least one person focused on racking up their post count to get to the next level or getting awards or whatever, [depending how the message board operates.] if that's the case they really should stick to video games.

    Cal,

Your so right. What I can't understand is why there should be any award in place on the amount of posts you place in a forum or bulletin board. What is the point? Does it mean that you are a better writer by any account? No, so why have it in the first place?

Yes I also agree with Cal
i dont find it something special to get an award
ehmmm..maybe i have 3 but i dont like them that much and i know when some poets here see the awards of the others they say"WOW!!! how did he/she get these awards..I must focus on(my poems, posts)to get some awards too)"
    its totally wrong!!

    Well DUH. (original topic)

People are worrying about having some sort of stuff to show off to all of their cyber buds....it's pathetic.

    Peaces.

one message board i still belong to has this 'top ten posters' list of who has the most posts. trust me it gets enough visits from the kiddies who spend all day on the board littering their forum name throughout the topics in attempt to get their name closer to the number one spot. usually they have two schemes. 1. to play the forum games to their death or 2. start a topic that goes:

first post: "hey everyone lets chat"
next post: " he he he LOL [insert a ton of emoticons here]"
next post: "WOW this is my 50,000,000 post on this site, hurray for me!"
next post:" I've reached a new level"

and so forth until you have an amount of 86 posts in ten minutes. hence acheiving what to be known as 'spamming the boards' [hey anyone hear of a chat room?] actually that is a nice convenient feature on this board--the chat room [unlike phpbb forums that i'm drawn to] but still doesn't always eradicate the potential problems...

but that is what moderators are for. to lock... and be-lete!

the only awards i really keep tract of are the poetry award and the comments award... cuz i kno how many decent poems the person has written.. and how apt they may be to comment me back........ im proud that i have some awards.. but its not my main goal here.. i think its kool and all.. but im not gonna stress over gettin to higher levels... especially for the forums awards... cuz that only really shows people that i have nuthin better to do than to come on here and post various messeges either begging for comments... or just tryin to get my ranks up.. and thats kida pathetic....

I'd be lying if I said I have never cared about the poetry and commenting awards, but luckly those days are in the past. I used to have a competition with another writer on this site concerning who could write the best quality and largest quantity of poetry. I don't suppose that competition is a terrible thing (it can help people strive to improve) but I feel that ever since I quit caring, my poetry has improved, although I don't write as frequently.

To tell the truth, I don't even look at the awards & ratings, be it mine or someone else's. I don't care about awards. I am here to write poetry and enjoy this site & the people here.

I don't know why everyone likes them so much. But when i get a new award i'm really happy because it shows like people are reading what I write - depending on the award!

I don't make a fuss over it though...

I have em all.. make more.. make more.. No they don't matter at all, they do not show who is a good writer, I suppose the favourites one kind of shows people who is reasonably liked but then, some writers are very unknown but write brilliant poetry.. they are not important so no one should worry about them

What awards? The ones you get if you add enough poems, reply enough of the forums etc?

Haven't really thought about them much if that's the ones you mean:p

I'm not worried about getting awards, but having them would be awesome. When I'm looking through newly submitted poems I usually click on the people that have awards...before I click on people without them....I guess I expect the poem to be good or something.

i don't care about awards because even if you get all gold will it matter to you in 2 years? maybe. will it matter to you in 5 years? maybe. but my point is in the long run the awards won't mean anything to you. some people give up on the quality of thier poetry just because they are writing to reach 200 poems. i'll tell you what though the meaning and depth of your poetry will mean more to you in five years or ten years. it's a reflection of your work and self. make your poems of quality not for the award later on the poem will mean more. your poems will be better if you put the time into them if you make sure they have quality other then just ripping them out as fast as you can to get a little gold box with a letter in it. the awards really mean nothing.
