no, i dont worry about form either, well sometimes but not all the time ♥

  • Steven Beesley

I don't always choose a particular form to write in and often just go with the flow.

However I do on occassion choose a particular form on purpose and make myself write a poem using that particular form. This I find actually helps me to think more and I stimulated by the forced effort.

I've seen the article by Erin, but many have not and it is well worth posting.

I started this thread but stopped after awhile as there was not a great deal of input or interest generated? I guess not so many are interested in poetry forms these days.

  • Steven Beesley

Aashik, I have also met Erin on Allpoetry and have read many of his works. I particularly liked his poem Anima Cantus

I have several of Erin's poetry chap books on ghazals, I am currently reading them but have not thought about trying to write one yet. May be after I have finished reading his books.

steve since you seem ot be the most knowledgeable about the thousands of types of poems, i think you should start topics in which people can write poems in particular forms. like one for a sestina and then after a couple of days for another type, etc. i think it would be fun.

  • Steven Beesley

Poonam, thanks for the message, in fact there have been threads where challenges have been called for poets to write poems in various forms.

These do crop up from time to time. However more of this type of challenge now occurs within the poetry clubs - like CC&P, EOP and YOS and there are also many inter-club poetry challenges.

You may like to consider joining one of the clubs. I am a member of CC&P - Coffee, Conversation...& Poetry. Within our club we have our own poetry calendar and have earmarked two different forms which our members must write poems for each month [24 forms for 2006].
