Today's Dr. Phil

I usually hate this show, but this particular episode I found just flat out amusing.
Does anyone see this as a complete circus?

I think it's just a more sophisticated version of the Jerry Springer show.

Springer has trailer trash and scummy low lifes describing the slimy dilemmas going on in their sorry lives.

Dr. Phil's guests tend to even out the playing field because they come from middle and upper class society but they have essentially the same, self-induced problems as their Springer show counterparts.

The most important goal of TV is ratings because the ratings are what sell advertising and determine revenue. And unfortunately, the most sordid drama in people's lives is what attracts viewers to these shows.

The sad thing is that there are are a lot of kids out there who are the innocent victims of the selfish, sleazy, shameful behavior you see described on these shows. But then, don't get me started on that!

My god, if you so happened to see the episode today you would have been disgusted.
The husband "fell in love" with another woman after having had...40...affairs, then gets the other woman pregnant as well as his wife, and they both deliver within a 24 day difference.

And I have to admit, though I preach about how idiotic and pathetic it is to watch these sad, disgustingly dramatic shows, you will probably find me every once in a while screaming at my television.

I dont like Dr.Phil very much. I dont believe a single word that man says! Ive never watched his show and i do not plan to. I saw him on oprah once when my mom was watching television and i just didnt get good vibes from the man. I hardly watch those talk shows, even Jerry Springer gets to me. I think ppl need to keep their problems between themselves and their therapist. It doesnt belong on primetime television. But that is just me...~Drew

If you really believe that, Ismail, why bother talking trash to the garbage around you?

  • Bret Higgins

I'd say that JPM instinctively sees fault and corrects it where as you actively look for it then attack it.

How can you clean up something you actively build upon? At least JPM is efficient to a fault. No way to deny that.

If you readily lower yourself how are you supposed to lead by example?

  • Bret Higgins

I would like to point out that I do not think anyone here is trash or any lower than myself. I put myself in Ismail's shoes and that's what I saw. Not like I was proven to be wrong either.

    Ismail once again, shut up.
No one cares that you take dr. Phil seriously or buy into the whole "I'm a rich and powerful saint who's going to heal all your marriage issues" Just like no one cares that I can't stand incredibly fake and shameless television shows that base their ratings on Americans who can't secure their family lives and choose to let the whole nation watch as their marriage dramatically falls apart so a fat bald guy with a mustache can tell them completely obvious ways to "fix" their marriage for a few thousand dollars while they nod their heads at every blatant word he says like bobble head dolls.

This was a light discussion on America feeding off of the staged drama and lesser Jerry Springer's of television. No one called to make it into an emotional bickering which you seem to be drawn to yourself.

On the upside I find shows like those hilarious. You couldn't make up half the crap that they're about either.

For a start you have to find someone who lacks any and all form of shame to get up there in the first place.

Then you have the totally rediculous situations that they allow themselves to get into.

And then, in the vast majority, they open themselves on public tv and try and defend what they did.

Laughable, honestly, purely and totally laughable.

    Popcorn please.

Hence, why every once in a while you will find me throwing food/yelling/making obscene hand jestures at the television
People are drawn to it, what can I say

  • pinkalias

Ismail the reason why no one tells JPM to shut up is because whatever he has to say is hilarious.
About Dr. Phil...I would hardly call writing to someone to fix your problems for you "courage". More like someone who wants the world to pity their relationship and be on television.
For those who actually, honestly think that someone else is going to solve they're problems for them and make their lives all butterflies and rainbows, I would call that stupidity.

  • pinkalias

why do you always try to make that an argument?
    "pagans, muslims..."

I can call whoever I want stupid, however you would try to relate it to some religious aspect or minority group. I was expressing an opinion Ismail, and I would hope a lot of people don't think like you or we would have a lot more issues in our society.
btw, if someone thought clutching onto an electric fence would add a few more years onto their lifespan are they not considered stupid? or is that another state of thought?

I think you'll find that Pink, like myself, subscribes to the 'not liking arseholes' philosophy on life, as opposed to being selective by race or religion. Just focusing on the arsehole area allows me (and others) to dislike far more people and for a much better reason.

As for putting words in your mouth I did no such thing, one day you'll learn to accept responsablility for your own actions and then (and only then) will you see the truth. Stop blaming me for your thoughts, agreements and disagreements and go watch some Dr. Phil.

  • pinkalias

Alright, one more reply Ismail then you can say whatever you want and I won't prove my points because frankly your arguments lead no where.

"Well ofcourse pink, it was not an argument but a valid statement, you are validly saying that those who need help in their lives are blatantly stupid."
Yes, you were incredibly wrong to think that.
When did I say Ismail, that people who have problems were in fact "stupid"? If I said that I would be referring to humanity. I stated that people who relied on others to fix their problems for them with solutions that a 12 year old could provide, were stupid.

"Would you call these people stupid if they had different beliefs than you?"
Again, no. I fully respect all different religions with a few exceptions. I never stated anything about religion. And my point about your attempted argument Ismail, is that I've noticed with near to all your arguments with JPM you bring up that statement.

" And remember you questioned my opinion?"
I don't recall questioning an opinion. If you're trying to say the "pagan" statement, that wasn't an opinion that was an accusation.

"News flash: There are immense issues that are in the world, saying that comment, makes you seem oblivious with the world around you."
haha, no shit Sherlock that was my point. Our world has enough problems, we hardly need more people...alright I'll just stop there.

"Gullibility and Naiveness are issues we all have, if we are suffering with a dilemma, we would ofcourse seek it. No matter how bizzare it is? That is a fact."
    Yeah, annnd your point is...

"So if people clutch onto an electric fence believing that it would add more years, ofcourse they would do it. That is not stupidity but survival."
Ismail....clutching onto an electric fence long enough would either merely push you back twenty feet or kill you. This is a known fact, something we call "common sense". Hence; stupidity. Survival has nothing to do with it I have no idea why you tried to use that.

Bret: I would like to think so

I hate dr Phil.... Always trying to be funny, by being a downright asshole. If you just actully listen to him he acts as if he is better than everyone else and pritty much "smoothly" insults his guest.

And honestly, who is he to give relationship advice when he's cheated on his wife? Lol

[Edit] PS. After reading some of the stuff above, I think Dr Phil is needed here:p Haha ´.......................

How assinine was that? No more than usual, fella.
