I am not going to say that there is no meaning behind the rave, cause read it and it says a hell of a lot. But Poe was the kind of author who didn't necessarily write to impart some sort of divine wisdom, or understanding of how the world works or how we should be. Poe wrote mainly for two reasons (I am taking this from something Poe wrote about himself and his own writing, not a cop out opinion): for entertainment, and his own religion. Poe had a crazy idea for his religious beliefs that are too long fo rme to get into. And he thought writing should be short and entertaining more than giving a certain message. But obviously Poe has more to his poems than just entertainment. The psycholgical aspects that go into it, not to mention that it is a love poem. SOme believe it is about his own life. The woman Poe loved (I actually think it was his cousin) happened to die from a disease or something. It sent Poe into a shamble and Poe later wrote the Raven. There is no definite answer to what he is trying to convey, so read it and infer your own meaning from the poem. |
