Whose Poem Is This?

Our nation was founded on God alone
Why do so many people die unknown?
If our nation was so mighty and grand
Why don't we put our trust in His hand?

I want to talk to this author about possibly using these lyrics for a song.

    Hiya Garrett,

I have no problem with you using them for lyrics, however, I would like a copy of your song when it is complete. I am flattered. :)

[Starts with single guitar playing the key line, then after 30 seconds, second guitar and drums come in heavy. Then fade to start the first verse]

    [Verse 1]
Are we human living in sin,
When men are killing other men.
People do things that are unkind,
Something’s wrong with this kind of mind.
How can we say we are civilized,
    When people haven’t realized,.
    Hungry children walk the street,
    Looking for food to eat.

    [Chorus]
Our nation was founded on God alone,
    ( alone)
Why do so many people die unknown?
    ( unknown)
If our nation is so mighty and grand,
Why don’t we put our trust in His hand?

    [Verse 2]
So many people unhappy and scared,
All the suffering and grief to bear
    Their family destroyed by another,
When they remember him as a brother.
People can be frightening and cruel,
When we sit around like fools.
Life is so precious and tender in the mind,
    What’s happened to mankind?

Our nation was founded on God alone,
    (On God alone)
Why do so many people die unknown?
    (Die unknown)

If our nation is so mighty and grand,

Why don’t we put our trust in His hand?

[Two minute guitar/drum duet, in the second minute, main vocals and backing vocals alternate “alone” and “unknown” twice]
[Over light guitar, chorus line starts very quietly]

Our nation was founded on God alone,
    (On God alone)
[echo part is held while the guitar and drum build up, then slam into the chorus line (from the top) twice as hard as the first time through]

Our nation was founded on God alone,
    (On God alone)
Why do so many people die unknown?
    (Die unknown)

If our nation is so mighty and grand,

Why don’t we put our trust in His hand?

    [Guitar and drum continue]

Spoken: “One nation, under God, indivisible with Liberty and Justice”…

    [Guitar and drums cut out]

    Spoken: … “For all.”

Garrett, that sounds real nice!! I love the message of the poem, so I hope more people get to hear it, now that it is a song.

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. I will try to get a recording of it when it's performed this November. I may be able to send it to you in MP3 form, if we can get it formatted.
