Although all my poems on this site are rhyming ... i believe it doesn't hav to rhyme 2 b a gud poem ... and i think there is a huge difference between a poem that doesn't rhyme and a story

Some of you are really crazy...this post is two years old and this person is most likely not even on this site anymore..and furthermore, this is a pathetic topic and shouldn't have even got comments in the first place!

That's actaully not true. Poems DONT always have to rhyme. Most poems usually don't. A poem isn't about the way the it sounds, it's about the feelings and emotions, or the hard work you put into it.

    not all about Rhyming.

Lol guess what? Effort and expert don't rhyme, and this is the stupidest subject I've ever heard in my life.
Looks like Shakespeare wasn't an expert.

Even teacher's will tell you that you don't have to rhyme in a poem. It's a choice that you make.

i agree with u, poems should rhyme.... cz they attract the reader more and gives the poem a good sway .. but the things is, it's not always abt rhymming, it is up to u to have that attractive words and phrases to make the reader says "wOW"

Does it really matter whether or not poems rhyme? Every poet has their own unique way of writing and expressing themselves.

As long as the poet is happy with their work, then it doesnt matter.

Poems dont have to rhyme, although all mine do... thats just coz i find it easier.. poems with rhymes just flow easier.. but like some one said here already.. if the ryme is forced.. then it ruins the poem

I think people are loosing track of poetry and writing all together... we don't write poetry to rhyme its just a form of poetry, it's their to express our emotions thoughts and imagination... its an outlet and some rhyme but some don't, their are so many forms of poetry... their are so many famous poets that havn't rhymed, but made a statement in their POETRY, I luv poetry all kinds and people should not be shunned for not not rhyming... you should understand what they are trying to say/prove and thats the poem... thats the need for the poem.

Poetry is just poetry. It doesn`t HAVE to rhyme. Some people like it to rhyme, some don`t. Just because the dictionary says this or that ... Everyone thinks differently. People don`t write rhyming poetry because it HAS to rhyme, they just write it that way because they wish to. Different poems are good whether they`re rhyming or not.

You know, I use to think that. But I've been reading different types of poetry.

To make a non-rhyme poem work, I believe that can hardly use any "fill words" It must be strictly full of imagery, senses and so forth.

I find it hard to rhyme sometimes, I run out of ideas..
So mostly I go for the non rhyming type, My mother says I'm good at it..

Robert Frost said something to the affect that free verse is like playing tennis without a net.I think Frost was just comfortable with rhyme.Rhyme is the easiest form for the beginner. But so much rhyme is cliche-June, moon, spoon, etc, Most literary magazine editors will not even consider rhyme unless it is totally original and not cliche-which is hard to do.A good rhyming poem is a grand accomplishment, but nearly impossible to do well.I applauad anyone who can write an original and GOOD rhyming poem, but it is a rariety. To make free verse have flow and rhythmn is an art unto itself and I feel much more a more difficult literary accomplishment. I have written both rhyme but mainly free verse.I find rhyming quite restrictive and forced for the most part, but that is just me.Sometimes it works for me.But I prefer the freedom of free verse.I think the poem dictates the form and structure and you just have to go with it whether it is rhyme or free verse. The poem dictates the form. However it comes out from your heart and mind and is able to touch the reader in the same way.The emotion and meaning, that is all that matters.

I think it should have heart above anything. Rhyming poems can sound like absolute rubbish, but if you use the technique properly, it can sound beautiful (eg Shakespear). I do also find poems with a rhythm much more interesting and meaningful. But, if everyone here is truely a writer, then I beleive that they will all have their own likes/dislikes and opinions on the matter.

    Watch your P's and Q's
    by John (Mr. Whuppy)

Here I am tired and bored
    sitting in my chair
    typing on my laptop
a poem for you to share

    Keep poems and quotes forever
    then everyone will know
that this is the site that allows you
your P's and Q's to show

Then join a poetry club on here
and get your comments and votes
    debate in open discussion
and make some friends we hope

As long as you obey the rules
    and keep your comments clean
then you will find a useful place
where all your poems are seen

But don't forget to vote for others
    help any way you can
    to improve the writing skills
    of any woman or man

The chat pages that are on site
are there for all to use
but not for those who want to cyber
    to me thats just abuse

Just get on line and you will see
that with the Lords good grace
we all have something we can share
the world then we can face
