    admins/moderators?

there are 50000 poets in here...they don't have THAT much spare time...

Well, Bob perhaps, with his two personalities=)

I disagree with you to some extent JustPlainMe...

I do share your view upon why one should write, but who are you to say what is right and wrong in poetry?

Perhaps somehow with low self-esteem is deeply in need of getting positive feedback?

Anyways...Yes...The voting should not mean anything to people...voting is bullcrap...The best poems usually don't have more than 4.5...perhaps even lower...they are often too deep for the retards to get..

But comments/reviews can be both helpful and...well...make the poet feel better...at least so that's how it work for me...

    But let's cut the crap...

    Stop caring about the voting...

comments are important cause it helps you improve, and also helps your self-esteem when they tell you how much they like it.

    yeah...

well...I do agree with you...I just wanted to argue a little...but let people write for whatever reason they wish...I care not...

I just judge them because of it=)

Yes, a survey is a great idea.

I don't think you need a #4 and #5. It really doesn't matter why people don't want the system.

#4 should just be: I think we should abandon the voting system.

I don't think limiting it to registered members would help. Nor do I think you can really define a profile that would insure accurate voting.

the only thing i think MIGHT help is if it were a more detailed or complex voting system.

ie: a 1-5 (or 10) scale on more than one category and integrating the comment to be required.

It wouldn't eliminate false voting altogether, but might cut it down some.

(but I really do think voting should be done away with, too)

I voted that we should abandon it...so genius and ironic to take a vote...on voting. Lol

Should vote on why we should vote on voting why we should be voting? Does that make sense??? =(

^ I had been thinking the exact same thing. O__O

Angelina is correct, all they do is down vote a good poem. As someone also once said, most would not know a good poem if it hit them over the head.

the reason this site is so popular is because people can vote on peoms and there are top rated poems. people wouldn't even bother making accounts here if there wasnt some kind of prospect of having there work recognized. abolishing the voting system would ruin this site.. keeping it strictly to registered members is a good idea.. for one... all votes can then be traced which would discourage any 'downvoting'.. some poems wouldn't be so inflated (way more votes than comments) and you would still be praising good writers. honestly i don't even see why we are able to vote 1's... if anybody put effort into there work they would at least get better than that. it takes over 1000 5 votes to make up for a 1 vote (that is to achieve a 5.0 average again). thus, it's so easy to hurt an average. but most who tend to complain say they don't care about votes.. so why are you venting?? to whoever gets 'downvoted' take it as a compliment.. and at least you got a little exposure, most people on this site don't get any.

If this site were all about pimple poetry then it may ruin the site. But if you were serious about poetry then it would not matter at all.

have you not noticed that the majority of members on this site are not 'serious' poets. they are people who just happen to like writing. you guys might be really good poets and are very serious about poetry ( i notice you guys post alot), but you are in the very small minority. only a small percentage of this site even read these forums!

  • Steven Beesley

Oh right that really says allot, seeing that you don't post anything about yourself on your profile, having just joined on 29/08/2005???

So you think you know allot about the site and the poets here do you?

  • diet right

actually yeah. most or the poets on here are under 18.. and the biggest group is age 14. and you act like i'm no active and havent been on this site before. i just now signed up so i could post and comment. i've been coming here for a long time. i have noticed that the really serious poets post alot in the forums, and do the complaining. but it's nothing to get all defensive about.. sorry man

  • Steven Beesley

Not trying to be defensive or offensive about anything and I was not targeting you, apologies if you felt that way. Certainly no disrespect was intended.

You may or may not be aware of the fact that the moderators get mails everyday about people moaning on the voting systems and being picked on. It so happens that these mails are from the teens and the younger ones you mentioned.

Most of the other "older" writers who you have mentioned could not really care less about whether or not such a voting system was in place.

you make a very good point. but those same teens who are complaining will stop coming here cuz they are so concerned about the votes. i've been around all the poetry websites and this is the most unique and thats why i like it the best. its obviously that a change is coming.. but i'm just saying the thing that separates this site from the others will be gone. this site has been doing really well for so long.. why cant people just stop being gay and deal with bad votes, i'm sure most have dished them out as well.

  • Steven Beesley

Well, no one knows for sure what the change will be as a poll has been called and all registered with the site have been asked to vote in the poll. You should have seen it when logging in.

It really depends on the majority concensus before Janis can make a decision whether it goes or stays or will be altered in any way. So ultimately, it will be the very same teens who decide upon the fate of their fav. voting system.

Thank you Janis for your efforts, many of us figured out that would be the way with the majority.
