I usually pick my favorite line, and then choose the words. For example: |

Mostly I think of a very cool title, and then write a poem to suit it, probably why most of my poetry isn't very good! |

My titles usually come out of the poem. Most of the time, I know what I'm writing about or what my title is before I write my poem. If it's a poem to, about, a specific person (girl usually) it's their name. Usually what I'm trying to say in the poem is the title. Your poem usually tells you what its title should be. Just read it over and see what it is you wrote and what it saids to you and saids to the reader and that there makes up your title!!! |

i usually get my titles from a line in the poem that really summarises the poem for me or a line that i feel would work well or if the poem uses repetition i try to use that. I'd suggest if you're stuck maybe trying to think how the poem makes you feel and creating a title from that or put untitled! |

take the subject of your last stanzas and whatever stands out more should be your title |

i usually take a line outta my poem that is a description of it. Or i use a line in it that i have repeated, or the starting or ending line. |

usually i read the poem back and then use either a repeated phrase or the common theme, very rarely i start with a title in mind and write from that...but writing first is easier. |

I do pretty much the same thing as shadowlight, but I usually think up a name first to base the poem around, then write it then see if the poem fits with the title, but if it doesn't fit with it I read through and see the message of my poem and make that the title. |

My titles tend to sum up the poems meaning. However if there are too many contradicting meanings to te poem I just pick some important part of the poem as the title. |

I read the poem and think of what it's about. Sometimes I'll pick a line in the poem that really sums it up, or I will change it abit. Titles normally just come to my head, like most of the poem... But if the poem isn't very good, I'll have a really crappy title. Not on purpose, but that's just what comes. I dunno, it's weird lol. |

well i'll tell ya wat i do... I can never write a poem by putting a title first and if i did then as u can see i dont do it often cause i cant remember one poem dat i did this too..So wat i do is i re-read my poem and look for the meaning in it, and once i find it den i think of a title. For xample if ur writing about about lost and grief u could easily put "lost and grief" as ur title or u can read ur poem and the word(s) dat seem to appear more in ur poem can be ur title, or another way i use is the way u end ur poem...Just go and look up some of my poems on this site...i've got them everywhere or just look up someone elses poems and try and see how the title makes sense with the poem. Hoped dis helped ya...sincerly April Chapleau |

Some Of The Most Brilliant Titles I've Ever Conjured Up, Were After I've Written My Poem, I Use To Be Able To Write a Title And Then a Poem To Match, Now I Just Write The Poem And Base The Title On The Meaning Of The Poem As Lisa Has Just Stated xoxo-Nikki-xoxo |
