Yeh i really don't like sad poems, i wrote them myself but i've never liked them,i've heard lots of people find it hard to write a poem about happiness so they end up writing about somethiing sad and making themselfs sad so they carry on writing depressing poems, ever heard that before?

no i think that you should give it whatever you think it should not out of pitty! some of the best poems that i have read come from the depression section.. I dont think that anyone should give 5 out of pitty for any type of poem thats my opinion anyway!!

I have a tendency to rate poems depending on level of emotion and commitment to the poem itself, not actually dependent on, well, anything else really. I don't feel that poems need to:
    be happy
    be about love
    be about hate
    be about suicide
    be angry
    rhyme
    have a rhythm
have all the words spelled perfectly (although it helps a lot)

so i just base my vote on personal committment on behalf of the poet, and that hasn't made me feel guilty.

I agree... you shouldn't give a 5 out of pity...or obligation for that matter.

I like what Sean said... about the level of emotion and commitment to the poem.

Of course I don't lower the rating because of misspellings/grammar errors, but I might mention those things in the comments....

Most of my poems tend to be depressing because that is my state of mind right now, but just like everyone else on here i post my work for an honest and fair opinion.
I would rather have all 4's for talent rather than 5's for pity.
    Just be honest

I agree with hayley. I too write a lot sad poems, Most of my love poems are sad but may be it ends with a positive hope. I won't prefer anyone to vote for me 5, out of pity... I prefer a honest opinion.
But...I do look at the age before i vote. I wonder when i see so matured works by 13 year old teens. Some times, even when i find faults in their poem, I tend to give them a 5, While i might have given a 4 for the same poem if it was written by a person in twenties or above. ....
