    I LOVE usuing repetition in my poems, but I feel that sometimes repetition is over-used or that it isn't written very well. Anyone else agree?

    repetition of one word or line is okay in some cases. I've done it before but not to often. as for repetition of a whole stanza, am not so sure about that. I haven't seen it work on a poem yet.

    Well there are different points of view, to repeat in all poems is not such a wise thing to do, however there are some poems which have to be written using repetition as it is part of the poetry style/form.

    In any case one should not make repetition a habit in all poems written.

    It really depends. If you like using repitition you should read some great poems that also use repitition. The Bells by Edgar Allen Poe, and I think Little Lamb by William Blake also uses repetition. In general it is good to stay away from, but it is posiible to pull it off real well.

    Repetition is only good if it helps to set the mood or helps to create an efficient structure. If it is just bothering you, avoid it.

    I agree with HansRik. Fact is, not everybody can use repetition and use it well in poetry. It takes a certain level of skill and craftsmanship, attained over time. It’s not the hardest thing in the world to do, but is very easy to do badly. If repetition, repeating yourself in a poem, doesn’t lend itself to the rhythm and flow of the poem, it shouldn’t be done, used. Am example of how repetition might be used, employed;

    Robert I replaced your poem with a link to the poem in your profile, in accordance with forum rule #2.

    I appreciate your understanding.

    As for my opinion, I think repitition is used as incorrectly as rhyming in many cases. Both can be used to set a rhythm, and sometimes people get a little crazy and start making terrible rhymes and get far too repititious. Repitition is just a tool, and if you're smart enough to use it, and if it is the tool you need for your poem, then use it.

    I personally don't like reading poems using repetition, but if it's a good poem, it really doesn't matter.

    I sometimes use repition, but it wasn't one of my best poems. It's good when used rarely and when there is meaning to why you are using the repitition I think

    I use repitition quite a lot actually, but now that I know most people don't like it, I won't as much. Cheers for the advice!

    I find that with repetition, you either nail it, or fail completely at it. But I love reading poems that get it right. Repetition seems to work best when used in styles that call for it, such as quaterns, rather than just random repeating lines.
