People, please capitalise your "I's"

I have read some poems, and always find minor errors such as "i like you" instead of "I like you". It does get annoying. Unless you really intend to use a little i, then it's fine, but please consider this while writing, aye?

I usually capitalize my "I's" but sometimes I don't on accident, I really don't find it that annoying when someone doesn't capitalize something though, it doesn't really matter to me, as long as the poem still has a nice flow, but I guess everyone has different things that bother them.

It depends on the context, sometimes "flow" means how efficiently the poem is directed through different lines, or else it may refer to the metre and rhythm of the poem. Basically, I think, it means how efficiently you lead your ideas through the poem, to make it... fluent? and easily understandable. I don't know if this will be of much help, but I certainly do hope so.

When here on the discussion board, i don't usually capitalize my i's. :P But in the poems i submit, i make sure to do so.

I meant what he said by flow.. using certain words to make the poem sound better... umm here is an example of what i mean...

I gazed upon the horizon and then slowly closed my eyes falling into a deep sleep.

    Or

While gazing upon the horizon I slowly closed my eyes, falling into a deep sleep.

The second one just sounds better in my opinion and "flows" better, I'm not saying i'm correct though, its just what I think.

I fully agree, people should capitalize their "I's", it is so annoying to read when they don't.

I usually do...it annoys me as well when people have such bad grammar and typing mistakes. But everyone gets them...so I'm sure I have mistakes of not captalizing my I's and such...espically spelling. But that's natural..

    who?

But in e.e. cummings's case, that was intentional. Some people on this site do it unintentionally and for no purpose.

NB Katie, 'capitalise' can be spelt with an 's' or with a 'z.' British English uses the former way more often than not.

I do Agree about the I's but it doesnt matter that much but when u put stuff like .,! and caps... it makes the reader pause or slow down or read faster so it makes ur poem a bit more intense, and gets more feeling into it... I think lol, here is an example

I watched you fade away, your face seems to sway, towerds the darkness, you seem to linger, and only time can hear the tinker.

    or u could have it

I watched you fade away your face seems to sway towerds the darkness you seem to linger and only time can hear the tinker

and if u dont see anything diff.. well then nvm lol just my opinion it makes it look more beautiful... anyways... have fun doing what u like thats the imprtent part!

Well I might forget to capatalise it sometimes. When I see it a few times in a poem, I really don't care. But when I see it like 10 times in 1 poem, well yes.. then it really gets annoying.

I have to agree with you, those I's really would look better if they were capitals. Well, it is actually the correct form of writing, and it's rather lazy not to bother to capitalize them, but if a poet is so wrapped up in just writing then there sometimes isn't time to stop and capitalize the I's, but then afterwards it would look better if they took the time to go back and edit their little i's.

good idea..but it'd take long..(although you mite getyourself a medal for the number of them:))its easier to say it on here to all. thats wat its for...sort of. sometimes it does depend on whether the person has been to school and Knows about all that punctuation and capitalization and stuff..lol
    no offence to anybody!

I don't really seem to notice when I read other poems that don't have capitalized 'I's.
Sometimes, I accidently miss the shift button, and type 'i' instead without noticing.

On the whole, it doesn't really bother me aye? :)
