... Apply Differentiation and basic Calculus for the first joke.
For the second one, consider complex numbers and number theory. The jokes do not work if you have not taken a basic course in Further Mathematics.

I understand it because I am taking a Sophomores math class -and- a juniors math class.

What I fail to get is, how is this even remotely funny?
