I was just reading a post and it mentioned that some people cut so that other people will see and have pity on them. So heres my question... if someone cuts themselves on their wrists is it for attention (like they want people to pity them and comfort them and what not) or is it a cry for help (they want their parents, friends, an adult, or someone to help them, really help them).
This is a general question so just pick one and give your reasons. please state if your a cutter or not a cutter and what you think. thank you:) (remember GENERAL QUESTIONS, dont say "well it depends on blablabla")
    Thank you:)

i disagree on both of them,
the cry 4 help is more realistic tho
im a cutter, i cut on mi wrists bt i always wear long sleeved shirts and things like that so no1 will c them
so i dont think thats attention seeking

It's neither. Because life is hard for them at the moment, they don;'t know what to do but hurt themselves. Anyway people like these these Must seek profesional help.

I agree in some ways but cutting is not always attention seeking but some do.
but not all cutting is attention seeking,

yeah i cut, but i dont like it when people see my arms and what not so i cover it up. I dont see how some of them can say look at what happened i was in so much pain, if you were cutting for a realize you wouldnt have to tell ppl you were in pain, because like for me i didnt need to tell people that cutting was a release for me so i dont know im really confused, why would you use it for attention why dont you just call a friend for pity

in some cases it is both. i know people that do it as a joke just because they want the attention. But me myself too as a cutter can tell you that mine was i cry for help...i was hurting in so many ways and at the time i cut as a reminder to my faults. To my mistakes even if they really weren't my fault. Just please make sure you know the person first before you say the person just wants the attention...because you could end up hurting them more.

in some casses it is just for attention. i know of a person who does it for this.

i think that subconciously it may be a "cry for help" but its more a sence of releif at forst, untill it gets addictive that is

I cut and hide it from people who know me because i would hate for them to think i am doing it for attention. Although i do know some people who flaunt it cos they reckon it somehow makes them cool and "emo". I dont do it as a cry for help niether...

But i dunno people have loads of different reasons and ways of coping with things... I spose you can only understand them if you are that person...

i believe that the people who cut want attention so that they can get help.
i myself do not cut, although I have been considering it.

hmm...hard...im not actually sure because i know for a fact people, some of my friends who do it for attention and others whom don't...i think it's more the latter though...people don't do it for attention normally...

A cry for help IS attention seeking -- they're the same thing. Of course, people that really WANT help, will accept it and use to move on with their life. "Attention seekers" have no intention of changing at all, and won't accept criticism.
