Ok I was just diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I was wondering does anyone else here have it? Cause i am a little confused. My mom keeeps talking to me like i am insane, and my freinds are treating me diferant and it sucks. I mean do you get this or are you born with it? Cause if i have had this my whole life than i am still the same person i just know who i am in more depth now. I dont understand why is everyone treating me differant? HELP!

Hey Melanie... I feel a lot of emotions towards you. You're not alone... I've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder as well. It's been a little over a year now. It's just manic-depression... and people shouldn't be treating you differently. Luckily, people treat me the same. You should talk to those that are treating you differently, and tell that you're still the same person. Bipolar disorder can be treated... I'm treating mine. You really shouldn't feel bad.

Bipolar disorder usually develops later in life. I was diagnosed with it when in September of last year, after I attempted suicide and I ended up in the hospital. Just have faith in yourself Melanie, and you can treat it. I'm trying, and I have been improving. I have faith in you... you just need faith in yourself.

But really, consider talking to those who are treating you differently. You shouldn't be treated differently at all, because we're not insane... we're the same person they knew before. Just keep your head up high... I believe in you.

If you have any further questions, e-mail me at xtsy2urbrain@hotmail.com. I can probably answer any question you have... I've been living with bipoloar disorder for a while now. Anyways, take care of yourself. Don't hesitate to e-mail me.

    Much love ~ Tina

I not exactly Bipolar but i do have short bouts of Manic depression...the only difference is myne occur only once or twice a year so they cain't really diagnose it as that. I became this way at the middle of my 9th grade year. nothing you can do about it and just tell your friends just cause our bipolar don't mean your psycho same to your mom

to answer your question you're born with bipolar disease, and it usually shows around the age of 20...and sadly thats not the case for you. it sucks yes and people do treat you different, but i promise things aren't as bad as they seem, just take your precription when ever told to do so, if you don't you'll regret it, trust me. i do hope things look up for you soon, best wishes

Yeah, you should talk to the people who are treating you differently. One of my closest friends is Bipolar, and I have to admit that first I was acting different towards her, but then I realized that it was the same ole girl I knew all along. So just talk to them about it, they'll understand.

    Hey sweetie,
my little sister is bi-polar and even though at times it's almost impossible to get along with her, we still love her just the same. who ever is giving you shit for having it ... don't let it bother you ((I know, I know...easier said than done)) but no you are not insane and tell your mom that it hurts your feelings when she says you are.

I have depression... I know that it can be really scary, and I was always really afraid to tell people in case they treated me differently. But sometimes you have to take that risk.

OMG...how utterly heartless can you get? Do you have any idea how bad depression can be? We aren't just playing at this, and if we wanted do be insulted we wouldn't have posted at all...Thank you I hope you are proud of yourself....after all sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

okay, coolbrandon/heavysniper/lightsniper, w/e the hell u call urself now, y do u actually come on these forums? you obviously don't come on to help people or make them feel better, so tell me, what's so wrong with your life that you OBVIOUSLY can't face it and have to make others feel like scum just to feel normal? or is it just a natural belief that you should be better than everyone else? or, this is the most likely answer, is it because you're an arrogant jerk who doesn't understand the real life, has nothing in his own and has 2 get a buzz from becoming the number 1 most hated person on this site? :0)
get over yourself already, you're really not that good so f*ck off already, before ANOTHER one of your accounts gets deleted for being a tosser!

brandon is totally right. everyone is bipolar. everyone can get mad sad and happy all in the same day. people just use it as an excuse to be shy or to be a total ass. depression is actually pretty rare. there is a difference between sulking all the time and actually having depression. depression deals with chemical imbalanced in the brain which dont occur very often. so i think mr brandon for attempting to open your minds but i see it didnt matter

Omg, bipolar actaully has nothing to do with mood changes. My phyciatrist told me its when you get so mad or upset you cant control your thoughs and can turn suicidal in second, that you cut or scream or something than you calm down almost instantly. Do soem research before you start saying shit that i snot true. its not when in the beginning of the day you are happy than at the end you are sad. that is called being a teenager. You peopel really piss me off some times!

Everyone is not BiPolar. To be maniac is to be mentally insecure, you know, phsychotic. (sp?)Depression...not everyone has it, sure they get sad, but not everyone has depression. To be BiPolar is to go through extreme highs and lows in your actions and thoughts. My father, uncle, grandmother and cousin are all Bipolar, if everyone else has BiPolar too, well, i'd be stunned. They do act differently, they do think differently, but that's why there's medication right? To balance out thier brain cells. To make them as mentally secure as they can possibly be. There are different degrees of BiPolar as well, you can be mild or extreme, it all depends.

Coolbrandon: you really shouldn't talk about what you don't now like you know it so well. There is a thing as BiPolar and it has nothing to do with not bieng raised right or bieng a brat. It is a mental illness, then again maybe you don't consider hallucinations a sign of insanity? As for the strict part...where on earth did you get that idea from?

i got a couple of points to make

    1. bipolar was First "discovered i think less than 200 years ago. it cant just magically pop up out of nowhere.

    2. this is what im saying and i think brandon is saying as well. many people say they are bipolar just so they can use it as an excuse to act all crazy or be really sad.

    3. bipolar is real but only because doctors tell the patient it is, the more the patient belives he is bipoloar the more it will act out unconsciously, same works with skitzofrenia or howevor u spell it.

what im trying to say is. im almost positive bipolar disorder is all in peoples heads

  • supaflyhonkyguy

i saw a movie in health class where they did a study on schizophrenia and they concluded that 8 out of the 10 people with that disorder got it after their doctors suggested that they had it.

"everyone is bipolar. everyone can get mad sad and happy all in the same day. people just use it as an excuse to be shy or to be a total ass." -supaflyhonkguy....wtf?!
ok..do some research because not everyone is bipolar..jesus wat the hell!!?
and depression isn't rare, also do some research.
granted, that a lot of people would be just experiencing sad times, which is normal in life, and then take it too far, but you're wrong in saying everyone does that etc...
    hmm...

torn apart- depression actualy is pretty rare and just because a person is sad all the time doesnt mean they have it.

angelina, your totally misunderstanding here. he never once said people arent supposed to face mood swings he just means that we cant blame our mood swings on some disease or disorder

  • HansRik

Coolbrandon, I think you are misinterpreting reality. There are such things as obesity, depression and bipolar conditions. The human mind is too complex for us to fully comprehend.
First off, obesity is a fact: the USA is the country with most obese people (such people tend to weigh more than what their bodies can healthily support.) You should look around that country and look for some obese people if you do not believe me.
Chemistry (maybe neurobiology too) tries to explain depression and other such mental illnesses by showing the changes in concentrations of certain chemicals. When the levels are kept at those "unhealthy" levels, you get diagnosed with the disease. Therefore, these do exist, even though I agree with you in that these should not be an excuse for immature behaviour.
These problems are real, not mere illusions.

    Ta bom, eu parto.

bipolar disorder is actually pretty rare as well as depression. he never said they didnt exist hes just saying people tend to exagerate the fact that they can possibly have bipolar disorder. So tell me, how in any way was he being immature

    Yeah, ok,

how am i possibly lying? look it up. Tell me this, why have we onlly recently started diognosing people with depression and bipolar. we have it so good that we expect to be happy 24/7 the second were sad or pissed we blame it on some disorder or depression.

  • Torn

u got me wrong...i agree that it's overdiagnosed...but you were saying that it basically didn't exist!?
    i duno..
and taylor...i know wat bipolar is and i know what mood swings are..not exactly the same.
And all i meant was that bipolar does exist its not just some mood swing.
    hmm

heavysniper, illnesses have been around for centuries its just that they either weren't understood properly or were seen as a sign from the gods or something. have you ever read a roman script saying specifically that someone had epilepsy in those exact words and with that exact diagnosis? no. but caeser had epilepsy, only it was seen as 'fits from the gods'. and by the way, you say we need to stop being so dumb and that you're not immature? so you sitting on here all the time, getting accounts deleted, creating new ones, all in the name of dumping crap on people and probably driving half the people on this site to attempted suicide because of your vile words and impatience for people who don't fit in your perfect little world ISN'T being immature in your view? jesus, you need to get out your house and actually go and visit some people who have obesity or depression or bipolar or anything else that you don't believe in. people don't make these things up and if they do they're sick. depression has been around for millions of years, but they may have seen it as possession by a demon or god only knows what else because they didn't understand medicine or anything, and now we have the technology to understand it all people like you are trying to take us back in time so that none of it exists.
*shakes head* if you really believe none of these things are real then you have read a very sheltered life.

The other day my mom said that bipolar runs in the family. She explained it as "your happy one momment then sad the next" then she said that I'd proably find out soon... I sat there thinking, well hu, that explains a bit. I don't see how it could serously change a relatoinship unless some one was over reacting. I don't know, maybe I need to read a few more of these replies.
