Have you improved?

DO you feel like you have improved your poetry-skills since you began writing?

I for one, most certainly have. I have written for about a year now, and I think the difference between my first few poems and my latest is...well...beyond compare.

I owe this, at least much of it, to P&Q, undoubtly. I have improved much during my stay here.

Me too. My writing has changed from amature to...um...a level or two above it?

    Well...It DID improve...

But I still have quite a ways to go.

    I'm pretty sure I have.
If nothing else has changed, my vocabulary is much broader now. Also I've experimented with other forms of poetry.
When I was younger, I mainly wrote about my feelings. After awhile it seemed like the same thing over and over again. Now, I write about all kinds of things. So in my opinion that's better than when I was younger.

I don't know if I am better, but I am happier with what I write and more willing to share it with others.

Yes, for sure I believe I have improved greatly. I have been writing for a year or so, and at the start I wasn't writing poems. I had started to collect many poems I enjoyed in magazines etc. until I thought I would attempt to write a poem. From then on, I have been writing all the time. I am always full of ideas and ready to start new topics and themes.
From lookin back at my first poems, they're just a mumble of words with no order or sense. Now I can see some sense of order and thought. They aren't all written about love ( thank goodness )
Comments from people help me alot with things I can improve on aswell, so I know my strengths and weaknessess. Please read some of my poetry and comment on my style, and I will do the same. xx

ya!! its really difficult to imagine that i actually wrote my older poems. my writing has definitely improved. i used to try so hard to rhyme that the poem was forced. but now, i write free verse and the poems have a better flow. in another year or so, my writing will probably have changed yet again.

Somewhat, I think.. when I look at some of my earlier work, i'm ashamed of it, But it shows that I have improved, and it makes me feel better, since I have been writing for less than a year, I guess thats a good thing..

    I have improved 150%
I've recently read my very first poems and oh my! Knowing what I know now, I could find a million and one things wrong with them. They have forced rhymes, cliched content, and some didn't make sense. I think now though I stay away from those things and I have broadened what I write about.

However I must say the very first poem I ever wrote was pubished earlier this year, so clearly that one wasn't too bad. But the second and third etc were.

So in conclusion my answer is yes.

Just because something is published doesn't make it good. Really cool to get published though. :D Go you;)

Yes. I think it would be naive of me to say I haven't improved. Aside from being cliche, trite, with forced rhymes et al, most of my early poetry wasn't even about me. Even some of my deeper ones, I didn't have the mature knowledge yet to understand them.

None of those poems are posted here.

In some ways I think I have improved, but I think my writing still has yet a long way to go before I would dare to call it mature.

By all means I have improved. It's kind of like my cake decorating skills...when I look at pictures of cakes I decorated when I first started learning and look at cakes I decorate now...wow, what a difference!! The same is true with my poetry. I started doing both around age 11. I have noticed as I mature, so does my poetry. My only problem now is finding the time to write.
