I always feel like there are so many great words out there that I never use, in my speech and especially in my writing. I decided to make a list of all the words that I need to work into my poetry somehow. I thought if anyone else has any favorite words or similar, they could post theirs too, and we could all benefit in the growth of our vocabulary. Care to try? Here's my (by no means complete) list:

    mutate
    remnants
    pungency
    onslaught
    filthy
    prerogative
    asphalt
    deceit
    dripping
    lovely
    whisper
    absolve
    oblige
    languid
    ferret (as a verb)
    giddy

    vacant/vacancy
    contempt/contemptuous
    ragged
    refugee
    tributary
    rot/rotting
    abandon
    fierce
    tepid
    chill

    asphyxia
    fracture/fractured
    satiate
    allude/allusions

vocabulary is really something that people lack these days, it seems as the new generations come we just get lazier and lose more and more words to slang. Unfortunately, I myself don't even have a very good vocabulary; however, I've made due pretty well - people like my writing and my style for the most part. I have found that even with a smaller list of words to use, if used properly you could make something beautiful... Of course I understand your wanting to point that out, and I'm quite confident that if we all put some effort into learning some new words that everyone's talent will shine more brightly. I'm routin for you on this idea! Good thinking:)

I didn't mean to call them uncommon... I meant that I like their sound and think that I personally could use them more. Let's get some more on here! Which words do you all like, whether or not you use them regularly? I'm really interested in which words appeal to people.

P.S. HansRik, I had to whip out the dictionary for conflate, but I'm glad I did!
