Could poetry exist without love?

"At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet."

I hear that and assume it's true. Love is one of the most interesting things to write and read. Also, when you have your heart broken for whatever reason, that forms a poem based on love, also.

I think love has its place in every poem.

Dear Aria, does really every one write love poem he/she is falling in love?
I want to speak of good poetry,in which the true feelings are the main motive, to give the life, to give the soul to the words, otherwise what is the difference between the truth and the fake!
I feel like the words would be more expressive if they were based on a true love story and true emotions, even if the poets are capable of imagination, I think they write according to a preceding experience, they must feel this love in a certain way, no one can expresses love without feeling it! Cause I think love essentially feeds and grow this imagination.
good poets can sense that and taste the quality of poetry, the excellent poem speaks for itself,
so true poetry wouldn't exist without love, this also goes for other types of poetry, and arts..the truth is the essence of touching work ,and some imagination sometimes wouldn't hurt..

    regards,
    Amira

NO NO NO !! love applies to everything .. weather its lost love or new love or old love .. its still love .. nd MOST poems are about one of these things. It might be lost love or the love of a friend .. or love of a bf/gf hubby or wifey. there would be no heartbreak if there was never any love in the first place .. and no happiness without love. so YES ii think that ALL poetry reflects the passion and other aspects of love ...

YES! Poetry is so much more then love. Poetry expresses every emotion. True question would be: "Would poetry exist without feelings". Answer: "No".

I think all emotions are seperate, but you need them all to make any type of poetry work in the way you want it to. Without love we can't feel hate. Without happiness we can't feel sadness. So not all poems are a cause of love. If you said a poem was about hate then I would say without love how would we know the feeling of hate, so I would say most poems are inspired by love. I think it's really more dependent on the writer who writes the poem not the poem itself.

most poems are inspired by love, but they are fueled by hate, which is why we actually find love. poems could be about anything, but behind our poems are the distinct difference between rhate and love. so ut depends on which part of this ratio you are thinking about: the love, or the hate.

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures in every circumstance."
tell me that it ain't and i'll tell u where i got it from.
i know love when i see it, but sometimes it can be the person that is making it look like that when it isn't.
basically poetry can live without love because you've seen it for yourselves. poets write poems when angered, sad, depressed, happy, glad, etc. anytype of emotion and yes you can say something is beautiful without meaning it in a certain way.
you could tell your friend that she's beautiful but you mean it in a friendly way not a lesbo type way
(if you're a girl telling your friend that's a girl) and if you're a boy that has a friend that is a girl but have a gf or not you can still say it without meaning. it's just that sometimes ppl chose to think further than their words. either the one that said the words or the person that it's being said to.
i don't know if anyone here understands what i've just said and if not just message me and i'll explain it again.

I think poetry can exist without love, but it can't exist without passion. Sure, you could write poetry about soemthign esle, like friendship, or family. but in order to write about then, you need to ahve a passion for them, thought it doesn't always need to be a good passion.

I dont think poetry can exist with out love, my poems certainly couldnt anyway. The reason I started writing was because i needed a way to express how i felt and i thought i couldnt show that to the person I loved. But i was wrong. Ive not actually wrote for a while properly, the reason i used to write a lot was when me and this gril split up first, but we got back togeter so i stopped. but im back to square one again now.

I think i love...you guys. Yeah, really. I love these kind of mental contemplations of what is and what is not. I dont know love all that well. Than again, maybe its an abstraction that i've been ignoring since birth. But if i can feel more complete , then i can assure you im getting closer to some form of love. When i read a poem that moves me, its acceptance (ie love) that im moving toward. To say that poetry can exist without love would be to say that we can exist without love as well-And thats hard to believe (their's somthing wrong if you think we ourselves aren't made without love)-for surely a poet's purpose is to embrace SOMETHING...be it your "phone bill" a "little puppy" or your sweet old grandma...and thats love!

I think that all poems do not have to reflect on love. You can write about anything in this whole univers... even your imagination. Love isn't the only thing that exists in the world... nor is depression that people usually write about caused by love.

You can write about the most random thing... take, a flower for instance. Or... maybe a planet that's not yet found and is just floating around in your dreams.

Another point is that poems don't always have to be... sad and/or seriouse. Some of the best famous writers that have tons of books published write about funny things that have to do with anything BUT love.

Yes, love is a great and common topic to write about... but EVERY SINGLE poem does not have to reflet on love.

:) but really... can emotions in words exist without emotions to be put in words? or how could emotions be expressed if there is nothing to express it with?

aha! here is a nice quote related to this:

"Oh, God of dust and rainbows let us see
That without dust, the rainbows would not be"
    -Langston Hughes

like I said... think yin and yang ;)

Love, as I Believe it, is the stronghold that keeps us all inside. We may not feel love. However there would not be hate, pain, or any emotion for that matter if there were not Love. It is emotion that fuels us to create and Love is the foundation for that emotion.

I do not beleive so many of you can not see outside of the box. Think about love for a minute. For ever thing there exists an oposite a sort of balance. For night there is day, for up there is down. For hate there is LOVE. Love is often the key to many other emotions. Please do not forget. That we all loved unconditionally once. It still lives within us. Just because our poems do not talk of love or are written because of love. Does not mean that Love did not play a significant role in our lives. Love is the first emotion any of of us will feel in our lifetimes, and it gives birth to many other emotions and will never go away.
