I have relized that most people will write when their heart is broken and that is usually when their best work comes out....why? |

I don’t necessarily agree. You write from what and who you are and from where you’re at. If you’re heartbroken, you write from the seething emotion stirred up by that heartbreak and some people write very fervently in such a raised state of pain and anger. Those are very strong emotions, but that is not all poets best state of and for writing. It is just easier to write, while venting and working out emotional scars than not for many is all. Discord with government or the social or economic state of the world or your society makes for great, highly impassioned political pieces. Discontent can be a highly driving force in poetry, but whatever gets you impassioned, can make for a great poem. The fact is you have to have something to write about, and pain offers up a lot, but some of the greatest poets in and of history – especially those from the romantic era - wrote many wonderfully exquisite works - without being, hurt, depressed or in pain. The major reason most write their best work in this state is because when in love and trying to write a love poem or such or when they’re trying to write a happy poem, they’re just too giddy, high, to write well, and best they can do is something sophomoric, for it easier for them to process these emotions on there simplest levels, then to express the more lofty ones they harbor, but unhappiness, pain, can be clearly and efficiently expressed without seeming sophomoric!!! |

It's just a natural thing for those who are really good with words...sometimes you don't wanna say it a way but it comes out just right...like he said it's the curse! |

cuz it's when you have the most emotion inside of you. it's like a lot of people will write about things like love and friendship and stuff like that but when you're mad or depressed, it's the most easiest to get your feelings out cuz all your probably going on is anger and sadness. and I guess its a time when you can be more open about stuff, cuz ur pissed and you just dont care what anybody thinks. |

no one poet is the same in what style or feel there poems take. some poets can only bring out sad poems while others can only bring the happiest of themes in their poems. then there's poets like shakespeare who could write tragedies that bring tears to the eyes but could also write the most beautiful poems with the purest happiness. it all depends on the poet. ciao |

You write what is in your heart, about your strongest emotions. SOmetimes when your heart breaks, thats when you have the strongest emotions. "Artists feel things different from normal people, but it's how they use what they feel to convey it to the world" -me! |

It's easy to base things on heartbreak, whether you've experienced it or not. If you have, you know the feeling, so you write it down. If you haven't, there's more synonyms for sadness then happiness, making it easy to get a clear view of the point, and make it sound like a heartbreaking poem. |

I write my best when either heart broken or angered. I do not mean the anger that results over frivolouse things, but pure anger. Like when some one decides to try to hurt one of my children or things along that line. But that is just me... No wonder I have not been writing many poems lately lol |

I think it's because at the time of a heart break, many emotions come along with it, some that are easier to put into words so that is what they write about, some people just normally always write about heartbreak, it's a part of them, but i also agree with bob, it is the poets curse.. |

I think that the best poetry is written with feelings and emotions. The best poetry are often ones that most can relate to and actually understand the writer's state of mind and what they want to express. It's therefore easier for readers to relate with love poems when the writer is truly in love or when their heart is broken. That of course is only my opinion. |

well... when your heartbroken.. a lot of things go through your mind... when you break-up, have fights etc.. your mind is restless... and nothing can really stop it.. ive noticed.. that when i go through broken relationships, they tend to make poetry seem like a cleanser, to help you get through it.. which is why... when your heartbroken, or when you go through sudden experiences, they mostly turn up in your poems.. so basically it's like an instinct.. something you cant help... so yeah.. =) |

my opinion is that there are so many feelings inside, and when you write them down on paper, you'll feel a lot better...its like the world lifting off your shoulders. |

Thats true for me.. but i can write even when im not heartbroken! Even when im in love i write about heart break or fears of being heart broken. Most people produce fantastic work when their heart broken because of alL the emotion they have. |

personally I believe this is true because a broken heart isnt scared to say anything and expresses its emotions freely sometimes people are to worried about structure etc to write properly but when im heartbroken I dont care and I just write and it tends to form its self |

Yeah ive noticed tht 2! Even i do it! .....I think its cuz when something really exciting or drastic or sad happens, thts when you have the most to write about. But when your life is going fine but nothing different is happeneing, well....u dont have much to write about. |

My best work comes out when I'm under no emotional pressure at all. For example, my best work [imo and according to comments] is a poem where I put no emotion into it at all. I just wrote it to satisfy my need to write a good poem. Of course, I'm a writer who doesn't really put emotion into their poems... And they still turn out great. I have noticed a lot of other people find heart break a good time to write. As for me, I can barely think straight after a real heart break. So I don't understand how people can actually do it. |

It's because when people are heartbroken they feel their emotions so much more, because pain is a strong emotion and it allows them to express it. aswell as it helps to express feeilngs when you are heart broken or upset. it is not true for everyone though. |
