I dont know if anyone else has realized this and I dont want to be a burden or anything but I seem to have realized as I read through poems on here and read the comments people are stealing others writing. Not completely stealing the whole poem but the way it is written and what it is about being the same. Its getting really annoying. So please write your own stuff and dont steal. |

Plain and simple, sometimes you just like the other's persons idea, angle. We've all had our writing, poetry, inspired, by someone else's writing, song, or poetry - either by admiring their style and way of writing, expression, or by the fact they were saying what we felt, what we essentially wanted to say, and they did is so well, with such effectiveness, that we adopted a similar style. I know, I been influenced by others writing, by certain songs, by great poets of the past, and by slam poetry of today. Sometimes, I'll see something someone else has done and go, that'll work for me, I can do something with that concept, idea, or see something some one else did and say that's very good, one hell of a concept, idea, let me see if I can do that but better. I feel it's not about the originality of the idea, but the quality of the work, how good the poem is. I don't care who did it first, but who did it better, and it's a compliment to you, when somebody wants to or does copy your idea!!! People can copy my poetic concepts, if the want, but I know this, they'll never be able to do it better than I did it, and if they are, more power to them. |

very well said robert^, i agree, some people do read a poem and use the same idea, sometimes i get my inspiration from another poem, like ill read one and see a word i dont use alot, and ill incorporate the word into another poem, but you cant call it stealing because you are not using the same lines as the writer of the poem. |

I think all of you are right. There are many different types of people on this site. I believe that some may get inspiration from another's work. Some may not have read every poem on the site and don't realize they may have a similar idea and maybe some are thieves, I would hope not but you never know.......... |

I agree. It's on the purpose of the writer. |

But somehow, it's really stealing. The credit should be given to the person who had the original idea. |

WORD. but sometimes when you read a lot of poetry that has a similar flair or style it gets ingrained in your head and writing. and sometimes its completely coincidental. its very difficult nowadays to write something completely and utterly original that resembles NOTHING ever written before. i think its virtually impossible. i could be wrong though. i DO think its wrong though to intentionally mimic other people's writing. someone worked hard for that style and that innovation and its just really disrespectful to copy it. |

i agree and if ppl get ideas from my work i'm just happy that my poetry has had such good influences on other ppl. i no i've read poems that are on here and are very similar to mine, which i certainly haven't stole, and were posted before mine. there is only so many ideas no matter how original one thinks they are being. |
