It seems to me like no matter what I am rhyming, it is a really common rhyme!

Honestly, I'm trying to do something like Shakespeare and use differnt words in each poem and trying not to use them ever again:
    heart; apart
    love; above

Alright, well strife, is a bitter conflict...could be a struggle, fight or quarrel...take your pick. But yeah, that's basically what the word means.

I think the whole point of a poem is to let the writing be smooth and flow. I don't care about rhyming honestly... but it does help make a poem flow, If you use the right words I don't notice the rhyming.

wow... "its quite the hilarious thing".... hey if somebody at least attempts to try to use it or broaden their poetry ability what difference does it make... you make it sound like all of those who do it are horribly wrong or stupid or something.... i dont think thats very fair or very nice... but then again life isnt fair or nice..... next time you even think something like that.... just try to see it through their eyes...

I was once called a "simpleton" for ryhming words like heart-apart etc. The truth is i can do much more its just that i lack inspiration so i cant really make a good poem. im really trying to be a better "poet" really i do. When he called me that, i was really hurt ya know, words hurt more than actions.

see, what did i tell you guys! some people just arent as perfect as you all are! or as close to perfect as you all are... just because they're the way they are doesnt mean you should look down upon them the way you do!

recuirtment!! answer to jessica walker who thinks she can rhyme easy

well, Kevin, since the last syllable in recruitment is "ment" you can easily rhyme that with a lot of words.... bent, sent, cent, scent, meant, pent, spent, dent, gent, lent, vent, went... this is a very incomplete list. I have found www.rhymezone.com very helpful

actually anne i think your wrong as you have mispronounced the ment in that word, there is emphasis on the NT not the M.

Wow! i thought such minor differences can be neglected. But there are a lot rhymes for the word recruitment. IT can be any other word ending with 'ment' can't it be? Like development, enchantment,...etc there is a long list like that itself. Am i answering the question or something different?

I also have a doubt. Many times i have seen people using rhymes like pair, chair, stared..etc
In that 'stare' is a rhyme. Is 'strared' also considered to be a rhyme for it?(This is just an example. I am asking about similar examples..where people add an extra 's' or an 'ed') I had thought it was wrong. But when i saw many people using like that, i also started to do that. But i still feel its wrong. Can somebody tell me whether it is or not?

I'm sorry, Julie... I must be missing the problem....every word I named rhymes the NT from "ment"... I guess I should have said since it ends with "-ent"...

and Trincy... it depends on who you ask...

I will sometime rhyme just the main vowel sound, in which case "stared" would work to rhyme with "chair". It also depends on the "rules" you set for yourself. Of course, the secret is to not make the rhyme (perfect or not) sound forced or like that word is there JUST because it rhymed.

(and then you have to take into account geographical accents! When I was researching limericks, I read a very heated discussion in a message board because the person rhymed something that someone else thought didn't rhyme)

Thanks Ann. I also agree that we have to consider the geographical accents. For me, its always a trouble. I follow British accent and its too different from American accent.. Because of that i mostly, have to refer to dictionary to know the american accents.. Sometimes i am too lazy to do that.. Many times i have found myself changing rhymes because of the difference in the geographical accent.

I think i have gone way beyond the original topic. Sorry for that.

Hmmm. thats not what i meant jen. For example.. Term and arm will rhyme.. Terms and arms will rhyme. BUt sometimes i have seen people keeping the rhymes like terms and arm. or term and arms. Thats what i asked whether it is valid. IT's not the spelling i meant, i was asking about the extra 's' and 'ed' for one of the rhyme but not for the other, which i have seen many people using. May be the main word rhymes but it doesn't rhyme with the aditional 's' or 'ed'. I am talking about such cases.. (i am not getting a perfect example) . Hope you understood what i meant.

Sometimes its hard to think of other words to rhyme. Its just like 'Oh they go so well together and they sound good when they rhyme.' I'm sort of a nerd because I've read the dictionary out of pure bordem. I've seen all kinds of words that can rhyme, but when I actually sit down and try to write, I can't ever think of those words I saw.
