Does every poem have to have a meaning, meaning behind it???
They say, it is said that, every poem has meaning, a meaning to someone, that a poem can mean something different, relate a different message to different people, but does every poem have or have to have a lying or underlying message, most explicitly, to be a good poem. I say no. A poem does not have to have a deeper message or meaning behind it, in order for it to really affect you and for you to be transfixed by it. What I feel a poem does have to have is a intent, ideal, idea, feeling, and/or sentiment behind it. There should be something there you can connect with. It can be as simple, as base as rhythm, rhyme, and flow or as vast as a more emotionally, spiritually, or mentally introspective message, meaning, but such vastness is not a prerequisite to a good poem. I have written many good poems, without such lofty introspective intent. A poem can be just about the art itself or simply about the eloquent and elegant expression of a certain idea, ideal, or emotion, without anything deeper lying behind it.
