Some people say (claim) they write for themselves, while others freely admit to writing for others. Many say write for you and not for others and don't worry about recognition, praise, acclaim, but we all have egos and a need for approval. We all want to be able to say we're good at something. I do believe you should write for the love of it, for that's the most assured way of creating, writing, earnestly good work, but if we didn't care what others thought, why would we post. I think at some level we all care. We all want a little recognition and praise for our hard and hopefully good work, at least, at some level. I think if you’re serious about the craft, you care about being good. You want to be the best you can be at it. And as for me, I do on some level care; I do want to be good. I, personally, strive to create works that could stand par with the greats, the poets that blazed the path, trail, before me. Now, I may not always accomplish that but that is what I strive for. With and in my poetry, I write to continue the great legacy of the craft and to carry on its beauty and artistry, to continue its history of bringing enjoyment, entertainment, to others, and to help keep this great craft continually appreciated. I also write for fun, but even in that my purpose is to be entertaining. Yes, I write poetry for the love of the craft, but I do care if my good works are appreciated and recognized, and I can admit that. As for you, what is your purpose for writing??? |

I write because it allows me to release pressures that build up from everyday life. It allows me to let off steam in a manner which is also constructive and enjoyable to me. |

I write because I can't live without it. It takes my mind off of things, and on the saddest days it takes the pain out of me. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true. Writing is the air I breathe, the water I drink, and all that hooblah. The fact is... I need it. =) |

I write for myself, to express emotions and moments I want captured forever and not loss in some recess of my mind. I write so that others can experience the beauty and hope I know and have seen. I write that which others wish to speak but cannot articulate, but with which I can identify for I too have felt it. I write to remind myself that I CAN feel, when sometimes it seems I feel nothing. I write to capture life, to create something worthwhile and to continue the art form. I write for myself, and I write for the world, but in the end I write so that I can keep this exact moment with me and share it with the world in all its beauty and splendor! |

I write for myself and for Tiffani. She's my inspiration usually, along with my emotions. What I write I want her to see. Because it's me and what I think/feel. And every word is for her eyes. |

Writing is an old/new outlet for me. Initially as a teen I wrote poetry, then I let it slip through my fingers. I did however replace with a journal and in December I found that I wasn’t getting the same satisfaction. My thoughts were reeling too much and as I like things very organized, my journal couldn’t capture. Or more honestly … I didn’t want my journal to capture in this fashion. So writing poetry is again allowing me an opportunity to take a feeling and expand upon it, using words and comparisons that I wouldn’t otherwise write in my journal. The day to day activities are still solidified in the journal, but now I feel released to just be me and ramble! I’m usually not one to share, but when I stumbled upon this site, just a few weeks after writing Always, I felt compelled to post … now the site has become my primary healing tool. Yes, I do believe we all have a tendancy to post, looking for praise and objective comments, but I’m getting greater satisfaction and pleasure right now in reading the writings of others posted here. This in itself has truthfully picked me up on many a low day. But writing will always be for me foremost |

I write for mainly myself. What I write about is my emotions and when I feel as though they're going to explode if I tell anyone, I write in the form of poetry and short stories. Poetry is just a way for me to vent sometimes. But toher times, I want to get people thinking about their lives and whther or not they're livingt hem right and to always make the best choice possible. |

I write to free my mind... When ever I feel mad, sad, happy, whatever the emotion, I just crave for a pen and paper. I cant help myself, I need to write at least once a day... its my addiction. I write for me... but some of my friends have asked me to write for them and I write what they want me to write, but its harder when your not really inspired to write. I love writting and to me writting is my way of leaving this world behind. I need that vacation sometimes... I guess I write for it is my passion. |

A few years ago I came to the conclusion that man expresses himself in 3 ways. Through music (playing an instrument/singing), art (painting etc) and writing (poetry/lyrics etc). My oppinion is that i you cant do any of those 3 youre a pretty much an incomplete human being. Well I knew was good at point 1 and fairly good at point 2 but was totally lacking at the last point 3 (poetry); I decided to give it a go. And here I am :-) |
