    “Poetry Analysis & Breakdown”

This is a place for either good poets or poets with large potential who are serious about the improvement of their work through very in depth critique and observation, and who are also serious about reading and giving a quality assessment to others' work.

Every poem read is a poem commented on, and if you feel like tossing a vote in there too, kudos to you. There is no point in reading a poem if you're not going to help the writer improve, which is the entire philosophy of this group.

It is an expectation that for every poem you post, you comment to someone else who is in the group at least once. This ensures that everyone is participating and everyone is getting insight into their work. This is more of a “struggling poets support group” than anything else.

I am going to screen applicants for both their reasoning behind wanting to get in and their quality of work. There wont be any mediocrity in this group. Not every poet is going to get accepted, and you will be automatically denied for not supplying a reason for wanting to join.

To be in this group, you must be willing to read and give honest and detailed critique of many other quality poems. You give, and you shall recieve.

Again, the poems you'll be assessing will be from GOOD poets, or ones with huge potential that we get to help hone, not the average 12 year old on the site.

The discussion boards will be a place where we can speak openly and intelligently, getting to know each other as people and as poets.

I look forward to reading and critiquing your work!

I’m looking for two assistants to get the group started and then members in the group. This is a group for anyone who is disappointed with the quality and quantity of comments that they get, who wants to read widely and be widely read by others who are also trying to improve their work, for people who want MORE from P&Q than the average.

    Well done Kaitlyn

    Where do I sign up?

  • Kaitlin Kristina

I actually dont know how someone signs up or applies to be an assistant, because it's not under the clubs section yet.

Maybe it needs to get approved or something first.

Eirisa, I'd love if you'd be an assistant in running the club.

Well that is a great club...Kristina.

It may even rival CCCP and EOP...

    Ah, I see.

For anyone who wants to be an assistant (I need 2), go to the clubs screen and click on the "be an assistant" link. This will lead you to the clubs which are innactive. Once I get two assistants people can join as members.

    I'm stoked!

I have a feeling everyone's rationed out to the other clubs already :x.

    Haha.

It's like Tupac Vs. Biggie. and all the other clubs are middle America.

"There wont be any mediocrity in this group."

I am quite sorry to say this Kaitlin...

But isn't your group elitist. And to those who are eventually rejected. Won't they feel like they are not good enough?

I dislike any group that throw off members of this site just because they are not good enough or they are too young. That is not what clubs are made for. Or is it?

  • Robert Gardiner

Ismail, when putting together a club like the one kaitlin is trying to put together, you do want to aviod mediocrity. As she said, "This is a place for either good poets or poets with large potential who are serious about the improvement of their work", meaning basically she wants serious poets, people serious about the craft and serious about getting better at it, and more than just a click. She didn't say she would throw off members indiscriminately rather that bases for her group, club would be poetic potential - or talent if you will - and passion - love of the craft - so thusly if you show the passion to be a good writer/ poet and the potential to achieve that goal, you would be excepted to her club. There's a difference between those who just write to vent or to get out feelings, and those who have the passion to be a good poet, and she wants those with the siad passion for poetry. That is basis for a poetry club I can actually grasp and understand.

    I understand what you said....

    Thanks.

  • Kaitlin Kristina

    That's absolutely right.

Obviously, I'm not going to let people in because I dont like them or because I judge their work more harshly than other people.

I just want to seperate talent from mediocrity, even developing talent, which means every poet in there isnt going to be a top 20 on the site. It just means that you need potential (which you basically have if you can put together a basic rhyme scheme and can spell with correct punctuation) and a desire to improve. A desire to seriously develop that talent.

My group is not elitist, and I nor the assistants are going to be elitist over the members. Everyone is equal, so long as everyone has equal desire to improve and passion for the work of both themselves and good poetry.

The problem that it's so hard to get quality comments and come across quality work is because people are getting thrown pitty "vote me back" votes when they dont deserve them, good poets are getting downvoted unnecessarily, putting them on what appears to be the same tier. It's hard to come across poetry that isnt highly elementary by new writers, because there's no way to weed them out from all the other 12 year old on the site. People are much more likely to want to join a group this involved if they're gauranteed they arent going to be reading and assessing crap, to tell you the truth.

This group is for anyone who wants to take poetry to the next level with a support system of other great poets.

I'm not sure if you're allowed to join more than one group or not, but this isnt a club that you need to not join because you're allocated to another. This club isnt about competition with other clubs and ownership of people. This club is about poetic development, and I'd love anyone who fits the description I've put forth.

Everyone on this site is afraid of hurting the little kids with no talent who are obviously going to go nowhere with their writing, but the plain fact is that not every person who writes poetry is a poet. There needs to be a discriminating policy against talent, because not every artist is Monet and not every poet is Shakespeare. Lets stop lying to ourselves when we all know better.

However, there ARE LOTS of poets on here with lots of talent, and those are the ones I want to work with. Those are the ones that opinions I care about and that I want to be a part of developing.

I'd really love to be part of this club, it would really help me improve my work. I am always willing to be critical but fair of other peoples' work. I will comment and be very active.

    Thank You

    Sondos,

I'd love for you to be in the club. I need one more assistant before people can just join as members. If you'd like to be an assistant, then you can apply to be one and I would gladly accept you if you were up for it. Being an assistant means that you would need to be pretty active, but if you're up for it, you seem to be a fantastic poet with really good work, so we would love to have you working with us for the betterment of all. If you'd rather not be an assistant and just be a member, I'll let you know when I get another assistant and it becomes a complete club that people can join and you can become a member.

Thanks a lot! And welcome to P&Q. You're pretty new. Good to have talent like yours.

Well kaitlin, ive long admired your work here, and have been looking for a good way to get some honest critique, and give some to some deserving authors. I gave up trying the request to read/comment forum a LONG time ago, 99% of those, as we know, are never honest votes/comments.
also, seeing as how my writing is something that is very important to me, and i would love to offer whatever knowledge i can to aid others, i was interested in applying for the assistant spot you needed. Unfortunately im not what the site would consider a "senior member" so im not eligible :(.

ive recently regained huge interest in poetry, and im going to be very active here again, especially if i had incentive such as this.

If you think im someone that your looking for, im far more than interested in joining.

    ~chris

P.S. Good luck with everything Kaitlin Kristina

    Chris,

I would love for you to be in the club. You're new to poetry, which is evident throughout your works, but have lots of raw potential. I dont honestly think that your work is developed enough to be an assistant, but when the club becomes active for members I would be ecstatic to have you join us.

The request forum is really useless, that's what most people come to find. Most people dont give good critique in comment, sadly, but if good critique is what you're after, do join PA&B.

Good news! I've gotten my two assistants,

    -Kevin Murray (http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/author.html?id=35580)

    -*Forbiddeneyes* (http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/author.html?id=167161)

Both are fantastic poets and I have no doubt that many more will join.

Now the club is open for membership! I've gotten a few e-mails from people asking when it would be open, and now it is. Please, do join if this club seems to fit you. We look forward to having you.

I'm excited to work with you guys toward poetic gold!
