There is a thread about that somewhere around here. I'll see if I can locate it.

    Found it...

This is a post from Janis after the survey was complete:

    Hello ,

Ok, we've finished our survey. From 2657 members that answered our question we got following answers:

    - It works fine, lets keep it. (1758, ~66.2%)
    - Sometimes it doesn't work, but I still think we should keep it. (413, ~15.5%)
    - There are too many false votes. Only registered members should be
    able to vote. (366, ~13.8%)
    - I think we should abandon the voting system. (120, ~4.5%)

What does it mean? Although in this discussion it seems that most of you are against voting system, reality is that most of people want to have it. 4.5% - it's way too few to make the change. I'd better have 4.5% complaining than 95.5% complaining... ;)

Nevertheless 1/3 of members feel that there is something wrong with voting system, which means that something should be done. There will be certain changes in the system:

    1) We will not rely on votes to yield "Top rated" poems. Currently I am testing a new algorithm. I am not going to disclose it to you but I can tell that just voting good/bad for poems will have no effect on poem placement in top rated lists. If this system does not produce acceptable results, we will try something different - may be even handpicked poems for each category every week.

    2) I am working on more easy to use tracking system to detect false votes. Although in reality problem of hate down voting is not as common as you'd think. Even if your poems get down voted , I assure you that these votes get deleted every week or so.

    3) The question about giving voting permission only to registered members is still open. Even considering fact that people could still create false accounts to down vote, it would make easier stopping them.
