Something to Ponder

Question, if votes are basically a joke and don't really matter, and comments, most of the time, just a glossy farce, then what is an un-established poet, hoping to establish him or herself suppose to take stock in. If vote and comments are just irrelevant, due to, most of which, lacking sincere earnestness, then what is? How can, and does the unpolished poet, realize the worth, level of their talent, skill? If you can't believe what you see, get, in your comments and votes, then, how does unpolished and un-established poet really know his worth? Basically, if these factors are to be discounted, then, how can the less poetically versed find and know the quality of their work?

Just something to ponder... For, to get better as a poet, you need to earnestly know what your skill level is, so thusly, you can work to improve, instead of being content with mediocrity. If you’re not poetically versed enough, to discern the true quality of your work and aren't getting an accurate gage of your skill, from the votes and comments you receive, what then??? Again, just something to ponder...

Note: I did not write this concerning myself, for I have had many, plenty - not all on this site - recognize my talent but in response to the fact that votes and comments on here are, sometimes, less then reputable. And if a poet who is honestly seeking to be the best he or she can be at the craft, but is lacking in the necessary knowledge to be able to cleary discern their works quality or who simply want to find out if their poem's good or not aren't getting accurate assessments at to their work, what is there to hang their hats on? How do they gage if they are really talented? Just a thought I had, wondering as to how we can seperate the real stuff (poetic talent), from the fluff (emotional dribble), for those who want to know, if they write with poetic artistry (talent) or simply, just write emotional dribble!!!

I don't know about you. But we have clubs for that.

    Votes can be easily swayed:

    By jealous poets

Or by the poet themselves hoping for someone to read their poetry.

By people who want their poems read, so they put 5/5 and a vote to sway us to read their poems.

So you see votes is a farce, and will always be, because you have no idea who put the votes in and when did they put it in.

I think clubs help a poet to mature and to make their poems more better as each day passes.

"I did not write this concerning myself, for I have had many, plenty - not all on this site - recognize my talent"

Lol.....And we got pride to back us up.

I do not want to stray from the topic, but I must say this Bob. I joined eliteskills.com, and it is already much better in the sense that it stimulates giving honest critiques. Thanks for the recommendation.
