i think, everyone is a good poet, if they put there feelings and expressions into a poem.
A poem alone doesnt make someone a good poet unless the poem has expressions and feelings within it.
    just my opinion

    : Save

Anyone that can say something , write something is a poet in my eyes

i believe that...a poet is made of only the purest mind and a simple way to rhyme it

I happen to know a good quote for this:

"At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet."

Plato - If anyone was wondering.

hmmm this is a hard one
i think if you can touch someones heart and bring joy or tears to them everytime they read you work you are pretty close to being there.

I think that i poet writes because they have something special to say, not just to say something for the sake of saying it.

A poet is the person who makes a white paper be filled with marvelous words expressing his feelings, his image, his life, his point of views..anything he wants.
any person that discribe his feelings can be a poet, there's a poet in every one of us

i think it's word that rhyme

It's all in the reader's opinion.

If a canvas was painted in pure black, some would see the maker as an artist. Others would see him as someone with no artistic ability, its all in the mind.

Contrary to popular opinion rhyming words does not make you a poet, if it did the word poet could be used inversely with human being because everyone is capable of putting words together that rhyme.

A GOOD poet is one who studies the art, takes pride in his or her work and pushes to achieve and improve with every piece. In the end however, even doing that does not make them a poet, the reader does.

A poet is someone who is passionate about writing poetry, and writes well of course.

A poet lives for his or hers poetry.

A poet is not he who writes magnificently on paper, but he who expresses beauty through his actions.

    Great answer Hans!!!

I disagree. I'm sorry. I don't think a poet can be described by *his actions. I think someone can be described like that, as in, "she was poetically graceful" or something like that. I think someone can definitely be looked and then assumed a poet...but I don't think your actions would define you as, I say it once again for god's sakes, a poet.

If a poet could only have "the purest mind", we wouldn't have a great deal of poets. Pure minds are hard to come by. i've found that sometimes stoners and drunks and cutters and bulimics and homosexuals and anorexics and suicidals write amazing poetry....sad, depressing, and sometimes annoyingly "Emo", but Amazinlgy well written. To expect a"pure mind" from a poet is a high expectation.

I think Broken Misery had a great answr about poem writers, and that JHarrison was absolutely right.
A poet is one who writes poetry.
But, like he said, that title doesn't mean very much.
What makes a poet is a poem that one wrote.
What makes a good poet, I think, is practice, experience, and inspiration.

Butterfly i think what HansRik meant by "his actions" is the action of writing magnificently on paper and it being also beautifully expressed, in that saying, it's not how magnificent of a writer you are that makes a poet but how beautifully you express yourself. Poetry is an artful and eloquent expression, and as I said in another thread, "it's not what you express, but how (or how well) you express it" or in this case beautifully. What he's trying to say (as I gather from knowing him) is a magnificent writer doesn't equal poet but one who can express beautifully in and artful and eloquent fashion does!!!
