Should government provide funding for elite athletes?

i have to debate that the government should not be funding thm. does any1 hav any arguments?

the money that is being provided is from taxpayers dollars, and unless a majority of the nation agrees to it's use, it should not be used to fund athletes.i think this

I don't have an opinion. Cause it's quite complicated. It would be better if they would use the money to help some of the americans that are living in horrible conditions right now.

But would they use it for that? Or would they waste it on something else... like war?
