What makes a love poem good, in your eyes? What do you like, what makes a love poem good for you. For me, it is the language usage (word choice), how effectively they express that beauty which they wish me (the reader) to see. It's the Tone, the Rhythm, the Flow, the Imagery, the Structure, the Diction, and Fluency of the poem. How it play to the ear. The poem's usage/use Romantic Language (the gushing, flowery words, they use to describe, express, their adoration, affinity). I want to be enchanted, by the ecstasy of your epithetic expression, as you are enchanted by the ecstasy of your inspiration, muse. The number one key to a love poem for me is the beauty, in and of its expression and how well that beauty is translated, expressed, in an elegant, eloquent, and artistic manner!!! |

I think the diction, fluency, structure and imagery is what counts. Romantic Language can only melt the heart of an enthusiast or the person themselves. Other times they make me barf (not literally) |

I agree with Sunny in that a good love poem pulls you in and you can feel the authors heart and soul in it. A great love poem leaves you thinking: Why can't someone feel that way about me... |

im not big on love poems, even though i guess ive written some. but i need imagery and good word choice. and originality. im sick of reading the same thing over and over. also it needs to be engaging from the beginning. if i dont like the first couple stanzas them im out. of course if its short, i suffer through. |

I think a good love poem does have heart, a soul, as many of you have said, but I think it also has poetic (artistic) merit, and that to me is the difference!!! |

I think that what makes a good love poem is its uniqueness. There are too many of the same love poems, so what stands out for me is a different rhyme scheme, unusual words, or a different take on the idea of love |

Love poems, to me, even the ones that may be a bunch of other types of poems too, I think should make the reader fall in love with the words. Like you could just lap them up off the page. |

A "good" love poem has only to consist of a deep emotional sentiment that is obvious or at least able to be felt by a reder whom has no knowledge of the actual story or meaning behind it. |

A good love poem can have many aspects.Like any poem(especially the grand themes-love, life, death, etc.), the wording is important, wether it is free verse or rhymed, and imagery is very important, it is easy to say 'I love you' but to show it through image and the little details bring a more intimate meaning. But the main thing is pure raw passion from the heart and to convey it in a beautiful way. |

for me, the key to a good love poem is emotion. you have to feel the person's love through each lines... that's what makes an amazing love poem, but that's just my opinion ;) |

a good love poem creates a sense of involvement in the reader...it invokes passion and longing in them for the love described, or creates empathetic response for the love lost...however, this is my opinion...ANY love poem is a good love poem because the author gambled on exposing his or herself...they deserve props for their work regardless... |

A lot of heart and emotion usually works. Ways people can relate could make it "good" also. |

A good love poem to me is one where the emotion is really raw and tangible and is not sugar coated with over-the-top language. Also a different rhyming scheme, though really I'd actually prefer no rhyming at all. Poems that have usual a-b-a-b scheme bore me and I usually give up after the first stanza. Also it should have a meaningful and appropriate ending. |

The things I look for and enjoy about love poetry is its ability to pull me into whatever image is created; and even though the love spoken of may not be mine, I still want to feel it. I want to know it's there and just how strong it is. Make me think about love for the rest of the day, and wish to keep mine - or reassure me that I will keep mine. |

i dont think that there is a specific forum. it all comes from ones heart, there for , there should be judgement on a persons feelings. |

I think the key element is honesty. Honesty is important in any kind of poetry, but especially when dealing with matters of love. You don't want to be glorifying the subject too much, because let's face it, no matter how much you love someone, they're never perfect. I like a love poem that can take a look at someone's faults and say "Hey, I love them anyway". For me, it's just got to be real. |

Well, I read alot of love poems. I'd say it's my favorite poetry section on thsi site, and what makes me rate five star, is how the writer expresses herself. If she really opens her heart, you can tell in what she wrote. If the poem doesn't express the person writing it, then the person is too confined, and I guess a one. So I guess me answer would be... when the writer epresses him or herself. |

Openess jut down right letting your feelings out and not caring what people think. Good diction, flow, beat, energy, and combination of beautiful imagery draws me in and makes a great love poem. Most of all it must be in all honesty. |

"a fool in love who thinks he/she should share with the world those undying feelings of emotional bliss, usually five years later that same fool is writing sad poems.....Lmao, only because for the most part it's true" |

originality. there are so many overused phrases and i think when writing a love poem, the actual word 'love' should be avoided and used no more than once...but this also depends on your style of writing. anyone can say "i love you," but can they say why and how? loving someone is not simply loving their good qualities..what about their flaws? |

A good love poem must be true -not in that said love actually existed- but rather in that the poem speaks with true passion, true drive...well, for that matter, true love straight form the pit of your stomach. |

What makes a good love poem?? Well a good love poems is when you live it, when u actully live in person the real meaning, the real feelings of love, because when your with someone, you develop defferent actions, different feelings and expression.. Its an everyday actions, and the same thing when it's over, u write about ur break up right?? so I guess when u live real love, is what makes ur love poem sound very deep and real. :) |

I do use "I" alot in my love poems, especially since I am the one going through the experience of it, good or bad, and yeah, I have wriiten sad ones about lost love too, you can say what you want about using big words , but I can write very basic poems and you totally understand what I am going through. A "good" love poem? I dont really know if I write good ones or not, but you can surely see that I write with my emotions of the moment. |
