Do you think poetry is better when it comes from the heart?

Let just say i'm not really a writer...but i do write a poem when the mood strike me...there's a lot of topic you can work on..depends on your vast knowledge on certain subject...coz lack of knowledge means substandard work...and my first attempt to write was all about heartache..it's not my own experience of heartache but rather my bestfriend..i was able to put into writing all her pain..sadness...because i can feel her pain too.
when my classmates read the piece they thought it all about my heartache...i just smile...
but one thing i notice about....love poem is well appreciated....but some too admire other topics depend on how good the writer is...
