there's haiku: a type of poem that consists of three lines. the first line should have five syllables. the next one- seven syllables. then the last line should have five again.

what other forms of poetry do you guys know?

There are tons of different styles. The most popular would probaby be Quatrain. This is the style I prefer to write in most of the time. It's done in: a a b b, a b a b, a b b a, or a b c b patterns.

    I like a b c b the best.

guess what? There are more than 14,000 different styles of poetry. HAve a look in this link:

    and

YOu may find a lot here. Many of the styles have different names.. So it's not that you have to write 14,000 poems, to write one poem in each kind.

Earlier, I didn't know any format other than sonnets. I saw Peter trying different styles and i liked it. I did a research on the net and now i am addicted to it. BElieve me it's so much fun to write in different styles. And challenging. It's not that easy to make a poem look normal after it undergoes so many rules.

I wish, i could write one poem of each stlye. That's a looooooooong way..to go. I tried a few lot already.

Did you realy ask about sonnets?

Sonnets are 14 line poems.. in specific format.

There are different kind of sonnets.. i will give a few formats and names.

    1.(most common)-English (or Shakespearean) sonnet:
with three quatrains and a concluding couplet, with the scheme abab cdcd efef gg

2.Italian: a fourteen-line poem with two sections, an octave (eight-line stanza rhyming abbaabba), and a sestet (six-line-stanza rhyming cddc ee).

3.Petrachan: a fourteen-line poem with two sections, an octave (eight-line stanza rhyming abbaabba), and a sestet (six-line-stanza rhyming cdcdcd or cdecde).

4.Reverse sonnet: a comic form which starts with the couplet rather than ending with it.

Oh dear! . Among sonnets itself, there are many more.....

I'm my own style. usually just the typical way of the four line style but everynow and then I like to write poetry out like this, where you write a poem that spells out a word.

    B
    L
    U
    E

Actually I am a free styler myself. I don't look at and research how to do the poetry I just write it out and edit things. I take in comments and process them so that I can improve.

I was just wondering though, what is the poem style called where none of the lines in a poem rhyme ? And then the type of the poem where it goes like this:

    A
    B
    C
    D

    A
    B
    C
    D

With however many paragraphs you want?

Yeah mostly I do AA BB or ABAB, but once in a while I write poems that don't rhyme at all... and I'm not sure what those are called :)
