Labelling - Agree or Disagree?

I personally despise labelling, I think that you should be judged on who you are, as a person, not by what clothes you wear, or who you hang out with, or what music you listen to, because at the end of the day it could all just be a mask anyway, and I get really pissed off when people try to judge me or take against me because of how I look because it's not fair

    Just my thoughts

Labelling is a two way street.

You will occasionally be labelled but if you accept it, then that label is what you want to be.

Judging others is part of humanity's flaw

    And we all have it.

i agree with both of you although i think labels suck we all do judge people but i don't think we should label them.

Okay, for one thing, labels suck... but i find myself still talking 2 ppl about them. okay, im kinda... "wishy washy" when it comes to labels. im none of them because im way too much to handle. if you want to label me, i am unique! but these are what im caught wearing to be called a certain label:

    Trenchcoat-emo, goth
    Black-goth
    Silver-Freak, prep
    Rainbowy-hippie, prep

Jeans and a tee (which i never wear both at the same time): normal

Stupid glasses-nerd (people have actually tried hitting on me because of my glasses. how pathetic.)

    Sunglasses:Celebrity wanna be, prep, dude
Streaked hair (bright colors too!): punk

Hmmm... well thats it for the moment... o ya.

Chains with some cool design/bling: goth or gangster...

    ------------------------

But dont label me! my only label is my name!

im gonna pop a cap in your ass.. no wait i'd rather be goth- im so sucidal, love is mystery.. theres no point to life... no.. how about emo- love me, please oh god love me, my parents hate me, i get beat... im a cutter oh god help m...now how about preppy... like omg look at those gorgeous uggs, their so cool like totally...

labels are just a thing that make u feel stable... and currently.. i just think their a backbone for the posers so i think they can call theirselves something other than theirselves.... the styles.. are a way of life.. not the way u dress.. thats why it's so fucking stupid to label someone "goth" if their wearing black.. maybe their hyper.. but they wear black. just because u act or dress some way.. doesn't mean ur the style.. or *label*

Labelling does nothing but put people down.
But the world isn't perfect, and people aren't perfect. It happens, and we can choose to let it bring us down, or ignore it. I'm labelled as emo,
but I am the happiest kid you will ever know, ask anyone. I don't dress emo, but I do like bands that people label as 'emo'. Ohh, and my favourite labels are the ones on clothes. Name brands are only a name, so I don't see the big deal. Why can't I make a ton of money by putting my name on clothes, what makes Calvin Klein so special!?..

    Oh well..

Labelling is no good. I do it all the time though, but I try not the think out loud.
For example; I see someone and think *oh god, what a nerd* But I'm not gonna walk up to him and say; hey you're a nerd! and then roll on the floor laughing...
    That's just low..

I hate labels. They're so restrictive. No one is so one-dimensional to be able to be defined by any one thing (okay, maybe a few people). I get labeled a bunch of things. Nerd, geek, because I actually read a book once in awhile. I write music, poetry, some fiction. && I like to argue. A lot of people have been calling me emo lately, because, I don't know. I hate emo. I used to get called goth. because, again, I don't really know. Eyeliner..no way. && some people call me a prep..because I dress well, plain, because I'm poor. But I am not a conformist, nor do I ever want to be.

I don't like labels, I don't see why we have to be labelled why can't we just be ourselves! I think it's mainly a high school thing, to split everyone into groups sort of depending on whether they are 'cool' or not maybe?
I don't mind the labels themselves, it's the judging that goes with them that I despise. People don't just look at you in 'emo' clothes with the 'saddened' expression on your face and think "Ok they are emo, so what?" they have to judge you for it. All the sarcastic comments and looks, god it's so horrid it makes me so angry.
Ugh sorry for the rant, this is one of the things that makes me very angry :S

Nah, it may be a 'highschool thing' but like most 'highschool' 'middle school' things, it happens in college too. It'd be nice to think people grow out of it, but, if anything people become more judgemental as they get older, but they judge you for all the same and different things. Very few of these opinions are ever voiced. Oh, except the proverbial.."Kids today..." Everyone, eventually, finds themselves saying this.

I am a human being, that is the only real label I wear, everything else is foist upon me from other humans, who because of their own insecurities have to apply labels to justify what???

Instead of cult labels, think about those that may genuinely affect your life... like schizophrenic, personality disorder, bipolar, etc...

Just because I used to be a mohican punk and I now choose to wear my hair long, does not effect who I am, only how others choose to see me. And I really don't care. If people are that shallow that they don't take time to get to know the human being I am, that's their problem not mine.

How soon is change gonna come around with the attitude 'nothing's gonna change'???? Huh?
The power of positive thinking goes a lot further than you can imagine... go for it, whatever it is... as Richard Bach says... 'Argue for your limitations and sure enough they are YOURS!'

  • Timeless Hopeful

Psymon: Why are you crying for change, you and you alone can change the perception of what labelling is with how you present yourself.

People assume I am rude because of what I think and my honesty of the situation. And judged harshly for it. Yet I laugh at it. Because I don’t care, nor do I mind what people think.

I agree with you. Why do people label you by your clothes, who you hang out with, etc. It's pathetic! I feel for you hun! I get picked on all the time. It's doesn't bother me as much as it use to. Now people just think I'm a psycho, which is fine with me b/c then people leave me alone. :)

no ome wants to be labeled. but then again i bet you do it? i thought so. i know i do and i no that im not a bad person. i go to 3rd world countrys to help i always do charity work and hang out with people with disabilities in my spare time as well as a social life. im no sayin look at me im a saint, or every one look at me im showing off how good i am
im saying that no matter who you are, good or bad, you label. its just the way people are.but you gota deal with it, not start a conversation about it online.

labelling is what it is. some labels consist of what you look like. [prep.goth.pretty.ugly.fat.skinny.ect.]
others consist on what you are. [smart.caring.kind.stupid.ect.]
either way, i don't agree or disagree with labels. i don't ENJOY being labelled, but what am i gonna do about it? i'll just take it as it is. as long as no ones physically hurting anybody, whats the problem.

Labeling is pathedic. There is not one word or phrase that can sum up an entire person. If you let people label you, or you label yourself, then that is all you will ever live up to. We often live up to the labels, so label yourself as the president of the U.S. and see what happens, lol. People don't fit into groups like that because they are all different. What people wear or how they talk doesn't make them one type of person or another. In honestly, there aren't types b/c no one is the same. LAter.

As of today, i don't give a flip what people call me anymore.

I got so caught up and upset about how people judge me because of my appearance and my friends, that i decided that i don't give a flying duckling what they say anymore.

Tomorrow, i'm going to put a sticky note on my head. It's going to say "You think i'm GOTHIC, don't you??"

I'm going to write on my arms "OMG I'M LIKE SOO GOTHIC, LIKE HELLOOOO"

    Well, maybe not THAT...

If someone's going to call me something, i'm going to have fun with it. :)

Other people's ignorance shouldn't become my weakness.

And it's ALWAYS going to be like this. Labels will never peel themselves off of history unless all of the people just DIE. Then the animals will have to label each other, and when they're all dead, the plants will label each other..
