The most common topics are not always the best...sometimes they're just the easiest 2 rhyme/write about. What inspires you?

I'd say that the best topic to write about is how you feel. and catch the emotion in that poem.

The best thing to write about, in my opinion, is your past. Some say don't dwell in the past, but if you write about your past and write very deeply into the ideas in the piece you're working on, then others can feel the emotions presented and can relate to them. The best poems come from the heart and bring a tear to the eye.

In a word, poetry is about "feelings". Our different feelings about almost any subject under the sun. How a poet feels tranlated onto parchment.

what inspires me is my sadness.. (as morbid as that sounds) when I am sad I can express myself any thing that makes me feel sumthing really strong inspires me to write about how I feel at the moment.. other poets inspire me as welll to continue writing no matter what other people think of my work. (and that has been a blessing)
