do you sometimes write a poem, and then think to yourself, "That wasnt very good", and then when you re-read it a couple of months later, you think "Wow, Thats actually really awesome!"?
I have done that with some of my poems Just wondering

I reread them after a bit and see whether I still like them, though my newer ones are the only ones I've really enjoyed rereading

I Think Everybody Comes To That Point Where They Write And Just Don't Feel Happy With It Afterwards, But Don't Be So Hard On Yourself, Writing Is a Form Of Puttting Your Words Down On Paper....Don't Write For Anyone But Yourself Hun...If It Was Good To You When You Were Writing It Don't Change It Because Its What You Felt xoxo-Nikki-xoxo

I enjoy reading my old poetry :O)

Most of the time it makes me cringe though

It does make me realise how people within this site, my life and my style has changed over the years, how I have grown as a person as writer within myself and with the help and constructive critism of others

^You took the words right off of my keyboard...reading my old poetry makes me cringe in both embarrassment and pride because i took the chance of expressing myself in a way that i had never tried before.

that very rarely happens to me. Usually when i like my poem, i take pride in it. You should believe in all your poems.

I like writing them the day before then reading them again when I wake up, I always 'sleep' on a poem before I post it to see if my POV on it will change.

yeah I have done that.. and thats why I keep everything I write in this book no matter how good or bad I think it is at the time cause eventually I look back at it and go wow and sometimes I think wow when I write it and I look back on it and think "god what was I thinking when I wrote this one?"

  • Lutu

Personally I'll write something I think is great, then a few days later, I'll think it sucks.I actually have very few poems that I think are really good, though friends and editors have told me some of the stuff I don't like is good, a couple have told me I am too harsh on myself, though it seems I end up hating 3/4 of the stuff I write..I guess I am very critical of myself and my work-I am my own worst critic! But never through out anything whether you think is is good or bad.Sometimes a bad poem can be totally revised/rewritten into something you are happy with.

    Peace, Poetry, & Power,

I love reading my old poems from about 10years ago, because they show me how far I have moved on and how much better things are now.. not with my writing but with my life.

    Yeah, for me it's opposite.
    I'll write a poem , think "hey, that's okay...yeah, that's pretty good!"
The next day I'll reread it and say"good lord, Amanda, what were you thinking?????"
Lol. I love reading my old stuff...it's hilarious. *chuckles* I was almost more passionate about it than I am now...but it's so horrible, and it never fails to make me laugh or groan.

I am in the same boat as Butterfly, I think sometimes I have written a damn fine piece, but when I go back, I wish no one had ever read it, this happens most of the time. I have maybe 5 poems I will never change, I receive plenty of great comments but some of us are smart enough to know it is to spare our feelings. I dislike most of what I write, yet I still try every once in a while.

god, I don't even know anymore.
Seriously most of the time it's like "Wow that was good!" and then later it's "ya, that sucks".
But I just wrote this poem called "overwhelming inspiRation" and I love it more than any other poem I've ever written...and i'll use it as an example. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you think tomorrow, next week, next year. Sometimes it just matters what you think NOW.
Don't lose hope. The poems that you wrote months ago are going to seem different. Of course. Because YOU were different.

I'm the opposite sometimes. I write a poem that I think is REALLY good and then I re-read it, and it's actually crapp. I post them anyways though haha. It usually happens a lot, except for a special few =)

i do that sometimes or the reverse, as ^said... when i read some of the things that i wrote when i was about 12, i think that they actally aren't bad... but sometimes i write something that sounds good at the time, but i have come to realise is just rubbish... however,i try not to throw anything away as i like to see what i've done even if it is crap! i'd really love 2 find my first book of poems that i wrote when i was about 8! i remember one that went something like..
A goat sat in a boat in a moat wearin a coat....
    hehehehe!

Yep, when I write a poem and do it in paragraphs, i do like 2 paragraphs or whatever, then think the 1st 1 is totally bad, and delete it, then do another 1, then it doesn't match the 2cnd 1, then I try a 3rd 1, and it ends in a kinda word mess.
