I don't understand how someone could post racist poems. To me this is very ofensive. I don't know if i stand alone on this subject. But I beilve subjects like only keep the fuel burning instead of putting it out. I don't think we should publish or be allowed to publish racist poems on here. Am I alone?

That is Ruth's or Rutha's poem. Both of them have similar poems. Even, "Done with this stupid site" had such poem, but his account is freezed, i guess. These are pretty rudely written. I read it but ignored it. There is a rule stating "Do NOT submit texts on the subject of PORNOGRAPHY, VIOLENCE, or overly OFFENSIVE texts. " According to me these are Offensive poems. Janis will decide if it is or not.

I'm very white i may add. And i don't care if you white purple or gold as i wrote to her in a comment. The problem I have is the negitvity. If you really want to express yourself in such a manner, don't post them on here. Use a journal for that. I get very upset with this matter sorry thats just me. I was raised to not judge by color. And I really take that heart.

Maybe the poems like that should have to go into a special category where their authors would have the stigma of being readily identified as bigots and hatemongers.

no matter where you live racism is horrible. I'm full Mexican, and I didn't know how people felt when people called them names because they were racist, until about 2 years ago. I was walking down the street and on accident bumped into a white lady, she was like: "You f'en spick, watch where the F you are going!" and then when she turned around she goes "This whole country is getting taken over by porch monkeys, and wetback spicks."
I was shocked, because noone had ever said something like that to me or that racist in front of me, I felt like I had been slapped in the face. It's not a good feeling. Those who are racist I can't tell you what to believe but it's horrible.

    To Life is Poetry...AKA....AKA...

First you are supporting the right of free expression for writers to express bigotry in their poems. But then you seem to want to deny the same liberty to others here when they see fit to denounce such poems.

There appears to be a lot of confusion about what censorship really is. Under the U.S. Bill of Rights, it is the government that is restrained from abridging freedom of speech. There is no legal or Constitutional right to free expression over privately owned media, including web sites like this one. Media owners have the sole discretion over content.

Not that it matters at all, but this web site is based outside the U.S. anyway.

The conflict over the two literary works you mention arose out of public censorship, not from their exclusion by any privately owned entity.

Although you raised some serious issues, it isn't clear whether you are really trying to be taken seriously. I mean, first you refer to other people as childish, and then in the next breath you veer off calling Janis gay because of the sound of his name.

Ok I think ppl should be able to voice there opinion but on the other hand if you are offended by it then dont read it that solves the problem

The reason I wrote this subject is because is it really neccassary to write racist poems. We are living in the future now.....Not in the past where it was ok to have slaves. I think we should treat each other with the respect that we all deserve. EQUAL. We all the bleed the same, we all piss the same, we all have the same intenal organs. The only thing that sets ups apart from the next guy is the fact that our skin color is different. If you really want to write racist poems why don't you just keep them in a journal or something. Or keep the negitivity to yourself?

Not surprisingly, right after I disagreed with “Life Is Poetry” over a statement he made here, he went to my poem, submitted a derogatory comment and mentioned that he had also put in a ONE vote (it showed).

But so much for his narrow, distorted view on freedom of expression which he apparently supports only when it serves his own purpose. When anyone else has an opposing point of view he simply resorts to retaliation, insults and name calling as he did here. If nothing else, he certainly has made a clear case for why Janis was correct in cancelling his original account from this site. All the rest of his subsequent AKA accounts deserve a similar axe..

And unlike you, “Life Is Poetry” or whartever alias you're onto now, I’m taking none of this personally. You just are what you are.

Though I find racist poems highly offensive myself and am tempted to vote a 1 and write an offensive comment on everyone I see, I don't and I also support their right to be on this site as well. I don't think you can ever put a guideline on poems that should be submitted because I believe that they all should be. You can't just ban poems because people find them offensive. For example there are people that find erotica poems offensive but does that mean that they all should be banned? Just because a certain type of poem is found offensive by even a majority I still believe it should not be banned. I'm actually thinking that Janis should make an offensive/racist category so that you know that it's going to be like that before you even read it so the only person's fault it would be for you reading it and becoming offended would be your own. But since there isn't, just don't read them. And if you have ignore them. Resist the urge to retaliate with a spiteful comment because it's not going to do any good at all. You ever think that no matter how many hateful comments they get saying that it was very racist and that they are a horrible person for writing that or whatever you say, their views probably aren't going to change. Sometimes it's just best that you ignore all of your opinions on the issue and drop it. And just to repeat what I said earlier, yes I do find racist poems offensive, and yes I too also find myself wanting to tell them that, but I ignore them because I think everyone has the right to post whatever poetry they want on here, no matter the subject.

Sorry it was so long but that is my 2 cents on the whole issue.

yes, I do very much. I wish we could say "no hateful poems at all" no matter what the subject. As therapeutic as I feel they are to write, I think it just breeds anger for people to read them...but I know we can't do that. I really think there should be a sub-category (oops...guess we should put this in that thread about categories) in the explicit section for hate.

but what about just plain hate, Janis, that isn't focused at a race, religion or creed?

People will write whatever they want, they are morally immuned to saying negative things or abusive thoughts. They don't care in life and it comes through their work as well...they are what some call the scum of the earth!
