Did Jesus ever exist?

Well he probably did excist, but I don't think he's the "son" of god, and that he was as great as he's described in the bible.

Jesus or Issa in my religion will always be a debatable character.

But I do believe he exists...Why?

Because many of the religions state that he does, either as a man or a demi-god or even a God. The fact is he was a man who changed the religious world for who he is.

And that in itself deserves to be remembered and awed.

Angelina, if you were researching your genealogy, and a document failed to appear on one of your great-great- great grandfathers would you assume that a great-great grandparent was born without a father? There are many historical records that show that there was a revolution in the Jewish community after the crucifixion of Christ. Paul was a Roman named Saul who was converted after persecuting Christians

Actually, read back in some of the Roman documents and you will find that they have record of a man, non roman, in the same region that Jesus was supposed to live in, who had such a following that he created a stir in the government. It isn't much other than that. No names. No mention of what he did to create a stir, or of his life. Of course, to the roman empire Jesus was a blip on th emap when it was concerned with the world. But matched up to where people say Jesus was and his life its a safe bet to think that the man the Romans made small record of was Jesus.

A man named Jesus did exist. he was the son of Mary (or as she would have been called, miriam) who was crucified by the roman soldiers. However there is much debate as to whether he was the son of god or even the messiah. He never claimed to be so, but whne the empire asked him "are you lesus, the son of god?" he replied "so yous ay" so that doesn't really help.

This Jesus preached god's word, but who knows. it may all be a hoax. Part of writing history, is to hide something in history.

Did Jesus exist? That one is easy, yes he did, and no, its not becouse the bible says he dose, that is on record. Jesus Christ, a Jew was indeed Crusified. The real question is, Is Jesus the son of God? Personaly, I dont beleave he was, I bealeave he was a servent to God, but nothing more. And personaly, I dont like God, I bealeave in him, I just dont like him too much.

I am a Christian and definatly was here on Earth and was the son of God, I mean I guess its been said that there is like proof he was here over in Isreal, and his body is not in his tomb , which is why Many Christians believe he rose again..I havent study what proof is over there but this thread actually reminds me to!

    YES
why do I think he existed?
because of the footprints he's left on my heart.
and yet I've never seen him. he's like an invisible breeze. I can't see him but he's always there touching my soul.
    as simple as that.

I thought there was proof he did exist? I'm not sure?

But you know how storys go.. People like to make it bigger and bigger when they tell there children a bedtimestory.

If I'd whisper "sugar" in taylors ear and she would talk it around and the word who go around and round then something like "vulgar" would come out after we passed the word on to 10 people.

And we're talking about centuries in this case about Jesus Christ

I'm not a christian, but I do believe that a man or even more than one man, called Jesus, existed roughly around the time that the bible states.
He was an ordinary man well versed in the magic and sufism that was prevalent at that time.
His teachings, as far as I'm concerned are nothing much to do with god, but rather the fact that we are all god, that we find god within ourselves not by worshiping at false idols...
The word christ was added after his day, it wasn't a name he associated with...

    “Pope Linus
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pope Saint Linus (d. 79) was the second leader of the unified Catholic Church in the city of Rome. The Catholic Church identifies Linus as the second Pope, immediately following the apostle Saint Peter Of the church of Rome, Linus the son of Claudia was the first, ordained by Paul; and Clemens, after Linus’ death, the second, ordained by me Peter." Peter's words are credible since Paul arrived in Rome prior to Peter,”

My point is that billions of scholars have believed Jesus existed

Throughout the course of human history evidence and physical records are often destroyed and/or doctored to further the current ruler's position in that particular place and time.

There is not a single civilisation in the western hemisphere that has not done this at one time or another from modern America and U.K to the Catholic state in the middle ages blah blah blah ad nauseum. (I am not educated well enough on the histories of the south Americas and American Indians to comment on them.)

I believe that Jesus existed as a man and possibly as the son of god because a multitude of records show as much.

Sorry Angelina, I thought the church was relevant to “I simply want to know whether you think that Jesus was a historical figure or not.

    Share your views and reasons”
The church in my belief was instituted by Jesus when He stated That thou art Peter [Kipha, a rock], and upon this rock [Kipha] I will build my church [ekklesian], and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Subjectively as well as objectively this is the reason I believe Jesus at the very least was a historical figure

i believe jesus and all the other people who have reached divinity in different religions did actually exist as normal people. Sure he lived and was crucified as many people were. maybe jesus was known for some thing or extreme faith in god or whatever, and so people began following him and after he died people made him a martyr and gradually he became known as the son of god. is he the son of god, does god exist? we could fight it out for years and nothing would ever come of it because know can say for sure. some people have faithe and others don't. people can never know what happened in the past because even though people wrote about it, they could have added certain things and placed less importance on others or not be fully informed. no one can say anything without having experianced it or been there.

Jesus was in my opinion an evolved guy who was speaking a bit of anti establishment scripture, got himself into a bit of bother because of it with the local authorities [ just like Ghandi, Martin Luther king etc etc].

He wasn't the son of God, come on people...the fact we are even discussing this is a joke! hey lets throw in some UFO's and Psychics while we're here.

  • Bret Higgins

Kevin, the fact that so many people give credence and praise to the belief in Jesus as 'Our Lord and Saviour' could manifest his spirit. The power of the mind is something I thought you gave a lot of credit.

I'm not saying that's the case, but give something power through belief, be it an ideal, philosophy or religion and inevitably it will be or become.

  • Kevin

For sure Bret, Amen to that.

If the question had been "does jesus Exist" i might have said as much, in that yes he does in the hearts and minds of those who believe such things.

I thought the original querie was a historical one? In which case my answer holds.

As it happens... who cares... Jesus, I hate to say it is dead... whilst we are alive... I think... aren't we?
    I don't know...

Interestingly enough, there is physical/legal or whatever you want to call it evidence of Jesus's existence. Since this not a religious discussion, whether or not He was the Son of God is dependent upon one's personal beliefs.

But if you are interested in knowing the existence of Jesus historically, I'd be more than willing to give you proof. ;)

    Cheers.

Yes, he was real, but the story might be added by the latest followers after his death, might be many years after.

Jesus was in fact a real subject, but the story was suspensed. I don't quite believed Jesus, but I believe St. Mary his Holly mother. St. Mary could really save us whenever we have trouble. I believe her very much.
