I never realized that Mother's Day was different in the UK. It is May 14 in the US this year (always the second Sunday in May)

Great poems so far! I knew you two would come through!!!

    Dear Mr President
    (A word from Barbara Bush)

Hello Son, on this summer day
I'd like for you to listen
to what I have to say.

It's hard, so many lives are lost
    must I give reminders
to what this war has cost?

The prices, in a time of luxury
    should the people pay
for things that once were free?

The people, who's barely scraping by
    can't pay for gasoline
so they can't afford to drive.

And why Son, you cut back on education
    the children you're denying
    are our only true salvation.

And Son, tonight before you sleep
    think of all the children
who are living in the streets.

Their sorrow, their lives filled with despair
    remember they have mothers
    in this world somewhere.

Dear Son, one more thing before I close
    Please Son, do this first
    bring our soldiers home.

The war, it's gone on much too long
the only way to stop now
    a decision that was wrong.

Oh Son, for this I humbly pray
    and give their mother's reason
    to celebrate today.

    We're Watching Over You

    Hi Mom it's me Noah
    way up here in heaven
The last time you saw me
    I was only seven

    That was five years ago
    I still don't understand
    Why my siblings and I
had to die at your hands

    I'm glad they don't remember
    that scary June day
    but I just can't forget
    Mom, I was so afraid

    You were not the same
    something was really wrong
    Where was the Mommy
    that always sang me songs

    She was gone so
    I tried to run away
    But I got caught and
    went to heaven that day

My brother's were waiting for me
    with our little sister Mary
    We were all very brave
and it was no longer scary

    Now we live together
    safe within God's home
    Watching over you every day
so you won't feel all alone.

    There's just one last thing
that I really need to say
We love and miss you very much
    Happy Mother's Day.

*Written from the perspection of Noah Yates to his mother Andrea Yates who systematically drowned her five children from youngest to oldest.

Billy my boy you did us proud
though did you have to be so
    well loud
and really son to curse so much
and the things you say about the church
and the stories bout ths drugs you had
    the girls, the porn
    it makes us sad

We raised you son to be a preacher
    and you are, of Satan
    according to your teachers
but we love you son drugs and all
you heard the voice and answered the call.

    ~What Sunday's Paper Read~

Mom, I hope you're proud of me,
even though I lay here dead.
I'm sorry that you had to see,
    what Sunday's paper read.

    "Six American soldiers found dead,
as the result of a roadside bomb."
I know you said I should have stayed,
but either way I would have gone.

Now, that I look back on things,
I realize that I did wrong.
I wish I could have realized it,
    before my funeral song.

I found out while in battle,
that the war had little reason.
    The bullies against the nerds,
    not God against the heathens.

    Iraq, was like a movie,
where you can't believe the scenes.
    America truly was the enemy,
    "the ruiners of dreams."

    Just another pointless war,
that the U.S. "had" to fight.
    Instead of listening to George,
I should have done what was right.

    Now, I lay here motionless,
    listening to the priest.
    Remembering how life was,
    before I was deceased.

    My Dear Franklin

    In times of deep depression
A county in a need of hope
you were there to be strong
    though your legs were brittle

    Providing spirits with life
    taking action to open hope
My son, you saved a country
    from remaining so greatly low

A mother couldn’t be so proud
to say her son helped and loved
making a difference to the world
    bring back a stronger country

~ Franklin D. Roosevelt from his mom, they had an intresting relationship from what i breifly read. if she never said anything to him about his efforts in the great depression i hope that maybe she had thought of what he's done.

OK... Let's go ahead and vote.. I don't think anyone else is going to submit a poem.

Anyone can vote... just send me an email through my profile and tell me whose poem you liked best.

You may also vote if you posted a poem (just don't vote for your own!)

    Thanks,
    ~Ann
