A friend annoyed me the other day:

"People aren't voting for your poems because they don't understand them." he said.

Personally I think this is unlikely. But then I realised a few of them referenced things that are either a bit ambiguous or refer to very personal or specific things (e.g. Margaret Thatcher or 1980s waste management policy in the UK).

So I was just wondering how many over 30s there are out there? Especially Brits, and especially those that wrote poetry "back in the day". How does your stuff now compare with stuff back in your youth?

I've labelled my older stuff so people can compare with newer stuff. But I don't seem to be getting many opinions and am beginning to susbect Dave was right...

Hello Ed, I am Joe...and I am 20, I see that you have recently Joined this site, if you give it time...you will slowly start to be recognized.

As for you poems, they seem to be very good, I will be sure to read some more and leave you some comments and votes. :)

Oh forgot to add to the above statement, that since your poems are good, I believe that you will have no problem at all getting votes and comments once people start to recognize your work.

Also if you want comments and votes that bad, goto the Requests to read/comment poems Forum.

Other than that be paitent, and your time will come to sit and bask in glory. Untill then keep on writting awesome peices of poetry.

    Peace, Joe

Thanks for the kind words, folks. It was actually the "views-to-votes" ratio that was troubling me. And now I've realized that probably every time I view the page from my own PC it's logging as a view, right?

I'm not paranoid. Really I'm not!

    Who said I am??? ;-)

Hello Ed, The view to comments or votes ratio has always been one-sided. I had a poem recently which had over 15,000 views with only 20 comments.

BTW, I'm Steven aged 45, soon to be 46 at the end of this month. A Brit living and working in Hong Kong.

Give it some time and you will soon see that you have some readers who become regulars.

Mel>from yorkhire. I don't give a damn for the votes - if I did I would be writing different arty farty right wing poetry and entering the discussion groups as your favourite uncle or sicophant. Can' t be arsed with that.

A straight-talking Yorkshireman? Who'd'a thunk it? ;-) (Come on you Owls.)

See, I do give a damn for the votes because if I was content to just write the poetry and end it at that, I'd not put it somewhere where someone could pass comment on it. I take the time to read other people's works, and I like quite a bit of what I see. So I leave a comment or a vote. If I don't like it I just leave a relevant vote and leave it at that.

    Seems reasonable!

    Ken,

Darn it you would have to mention the meds, I also forgot to take them today. Better take them quick or I could be accused for acting normal. =(
