Poetry awards

When you read poetry, if you have a choice beetween a person who has many awards, or someone who doesn't, whodo you read? Does the awards make you more willing to read the poem?

I don't really make a difference, although I do notice them.

    What about you?

I would have to agree with you. Many people in here, choose a person because of their popularity and their social skills.

    That is an underlying fact.

So I would choose a poem I like regardless of how many or less of an award a person has, I would choose them for their poetry alone.

well, I'd like to say that the title inspires me more than the awards...sometimes I find wonderful titles for a person that has NO awards!!!
the awards mean nothing when it comes to the poem!
but just because lots of ppl have(someone)in their favorites make the poem has lots of votes..so you turn to THIS poem and leave the poem that belongs to the person that has no awards!!!!

^ I agree, the title is the main thing;)

yes, the tilte does matter, but if i do go to a poem, i tend to go to the "featured poems" list, because that proves that someone else liekd them. so i could, too. but if there are no featured poems, theni jyst look for one with and interesting title.

I actually tend to read poetry by people with awards because I've found that in the vast majority of cases the work is just better. Though if I'm browsing by catergory I will judge on the title alone.

^^^ Actually if you look at the awards and what they are for, they have no direct connection to whether the poet is a good one nor do they guarantee the quality of the write. So it is really a bit pointless to look at the awards.

I don't think the awards say much. Sometimes I even try to read poems without votes or comments, and if they're good I rate them and maybe comment. I do this because I wouldn't like my poems to go unnoticed, though sometimes it happens.

Every poem should have votes and comments!!!

I don't go by awards, I read the title, and if it interests me than I read it, also, I read their profile, and if there is no information all "UNKNOWN" I usually only comment on 1 or 2 poems of that persons, but if they have a profile I will comment more poems I don't know why, but that is what I do. :)

The title, definately. In fact, the more awards, the more prejudiced I am ( know, punish me) because I feel they are merely crowdpleasers, and not stuff of substance.

I'm prejudiced to a fault, but at least I can admit it.

I Don't Look For Awards I Look For The Title Of The Poem, I'm Always Drawn In By a Really Good Title Not a Really Good Range Of Awards...If Anyone Does Consider Awards Over Talent Then I Don't Even Want You Reading My Poetry...Your Being a Hypocrite xoxo-Nikki-xoxo

lol yah i agree. what someone thinks is an awesome poem... to someone else it could be the oposite. i was going through some of the poems that get awards, to see what they were like, and some of them weren't all that good. (to me i mean)

if it talks about silly things like a desk, or a trash bin or something, then i dont read the rest of it. but thats just me.

well.. i usually pick the poems that hav no comments or votes or awards, because then i think they are just starting and they probably need the most help they can get.. but mayb thats just me.. :)

yeah if the title captured your attention
you will read that and when you read the poem that has a virulent meaning and struck you feeling
the poet who wrote that poem are much greater than the poets with so much or many awards in his name.....

mostly i like to read ppl without an award and the reason is they always have fresh poems, and by reading their new poem and tell them how they are you are supporting to bring a new poet into the world of poetry, but the ppl with many awards already knows wut they doing, and they have passed that stage when they need feedback from others.

Nobody had an award in the begining,
    He felt left out,

yet with feeling his pen would write,
of his thoughts and love, the ecastasy and strife,
spilling his emotion like blood on the field, his anger and agression on paper wouldn't yield.

Somebody won an award near the end, they were grinning.
    Happy to shout.

I mainly look at the title first and then the rating/awards of the person. I think that awards do count, but then again, it doesnt matter what other people think, it only matters what the poet thinks.

:) I hope i have made a point, keep it in mind for future reference.... just incase people say your poem isnt good enough..... im not saying it isnt... all poems are great :)

i tend to READ more poems with authors who have awards, but COMMENT people who have none/few/low level awards. i just think that people with awards no what their doing, yet people with few need the help/feedback more to grow.
