I am sorry for your loss, Naomi. It is one that I can relate to.

I lost my husband suddenly after five and a half years and two children. It turned my life upside down and I still feel some lingering disruption even after years have gone by. On the positive side, I became compelled to engage in recovery and personal growth through which my own identity emerged. I became a stronger and more independent person. Until then I had, for the most part, lived a sheltered, protected life.

When I was really down I found two authors whose written works were of immense consolation and help on the road toward healing. They were Harold Kushner who wrote “When Bad Things Happen to Good People” and Peter McWilliams, who wrote several very helpful books, particularly “How to Survive the Loss of a Love.” The last one has been published on the internet at http://www.mcwilliams.com/books/books/sur/srtoc.htm
Best wishes in the future and always. —Lydia
